Bro the level of the oil in fine - i just recently changed my oil and a whole 4 litre pack was consumed to come to the Max level!
The recommended oils are also mentioned in the user manual - In Lahore driving conditions (extreme weathers, dust, break to acceleration ratios) id'e recommend you put in SM 10W-40 (preferably a semi synthetic) - Also, keep your oil change intervals and oil filter changes to 5000 kms, and keep in mind- Always when you switch to a new oil, change it after 2500-3000 kms the first time so that 2nd time around the engine recognizes it's properties and performs at optimum level.
If you see the colour of your oil changing, this means it's doing its job properly! (the odor of the oil is a whole new story, it should not smell burnt). I changed the oil of my swift just 2 days back and it's only clocked 2010 kms, the oil was perfectly fine but wasn't performing well under my driving style (engine had a a very heavey khichi hoyi rattle).
I use PSO's Carient Ultra (SM-10W40) Semi Synthetic, iv'e been using it since the past 4 years and it easily can withstand our conditions and still hold it's lubricating properties even after 7000 Kms - but i change it at 5000 kms just to be safe. Also, It's made with a group 4 base oil which can give any oil with the similar grades a run for their buck any given day of the week and only costs around Rs.2000/4 litres!
