Indica and Indigo cars being churned out of TATA Motors!.They don't have place to park them!.

The reason for this thread is my amazment at how TATA has steadily improved it's product line up, has state of the art products in the pipeline and is thinking global.Think big!.It pays.

nickatnight...very impressive indeed...I would like to highlight a reality that speaks volumes about the differences between India and Pakistan. Both in mentality and Government. This reality are your words earlier in this post:

"in India....the govt. is the main buyer of TATA trucks/buses....."

In Pakistan, the government is not a big supporter. Perhaps if they invested in those who are willing and work to make investing attractive, Pakistan will improve...But only if there is constant improvement like in India, along with a commitment to buy the local products.

There is a very Eurodesign theme going on and I think Tata can follow the Hyundai path, but the American landscape is littered with Peugot, Citroen, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Yugo, (even Oldsmobile and American Motors!) and many others who tried and failed...The American market is unforgiving, and one good product today is yesterday's news in the wink of an eye when something new or flashy comes along...We Americans are a friggen fickle bunch.

I applaude all of India as we can learn from them. It is the noble humility and servitude that we all too often mock in Pakistan that India's rise owes so very much...well done nickatnite!

BTW, nickatnite, any more news on Ratan's Rs100,000 car? Been following its development very closely, but no new news for some time...

I'm an American too!.And, i know how the first Hyundai Accent was received stateside in the 80's!.LOL!.Real "dabba" it was ,but set the stage for Hyundai of today.They were heavily subsidized by the S.Korean govt. Without govt. support no auto company can survive.Period.Look at the Crown Vics well past their sell-by date still plying our roads with one badge or another!.Or, the new "Impalas"(a disgrace to the original) that are increasingly doing duty as police cars nowadays.GM , Ford and Crysler wouldn't survive if Uncle Sam didn't buy their cars.Same policy is followed by the Indian Govt.

GOI buys more than 50 % of Indian vehicle output for satraps, for police duty , public transport and utilities.Recently, Hyundai Motor India had to gift the city of Madras 100 police cars to get them to start buying Hyundai cars for officials and satraps to use. Even in India today, TATA is not a chic car to own by the bourgeoise.They prefer import brands.Hyundai is barely acceptable, a step above TATA!.Most of TATA cars in India are taxicabs!.

The new Indica will change TATA's image in India going by renderings and spy-shot images that have been released.

The 1 lac car is on it's way, scheduled for a Jan/Feb 2008 release.The German auto mag "Autobild" ran a spy photo story recently.Acc. to my sources the front end of the car is as it will be!.A town by the name of "Singur" in the state of West Bengal in India is going to be the epicenter of the 1-lac car operations.

In rural areas, TATA Motors is going to licence assembly to localized small scale units which can then sell/service their local areas too.This is an attempt to spread the 'Indian pie' a bit by the govt. in partnership with TATA and get rural India on the road too!.I guess that's how TATA Motors is selling the car at 1 lakh.Minus the taxes!!.Clever.This car is meant to do for India what the Model-T did for America!.Git Injuns movin' on the fast lane to progress and prosperity!.

The pre-cursor to the 1-lac car is the 2.25 lac TATA ACE, mini pickup.Currently rural India's fav chariot!.It can carry a payload of 1.5 tonnes!...
