Test Drive: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V

Wow! It's amazing how many people wouldn't consider the CTS-V because it's a Caddy and not as well known as the BMW M3, M5, or AMG C63. That's where my opinion differs, i'll give credit to a car that truly deserves it, no matter where it's built or by what manufacturer. I love BMWs and Mercs as well but having driven most of them the Caddy was much more impressive.

Considering the fact that the engine design is 50 years old!! See Hennessey performance hwo fast they have pushed the car to 800hp ....

M5/XFR/CLS63....No one has dared yet to push these cars to their maximum potential...the Stroker came out pretty late by dinan as well as the G-Power TT Superchargers!!

The 50 year old engine design is what makes the engine even more impressive. I mean, if pushrods and only 16 valves can deliver such incredible performance then who need 60 valves and all this variable valve timing? Sure, the fuel economy is horrible but then again this is an all out performance car.

That's what is amazing about all these new american sports cars. They've still got the idea right. It's not really a sophisticated engine, and in the case of the 'Vette, not a complicated suspension either!

Yeah.. I agree!! But then GM is also seen to trying to make believe American's that the V engine Mania is over folks(V6 TT Camaro)...

Khair the Fuel Economy is no Good in any of these big block performance sedans! All are gas guzzlers.....eating up the future of V8's 10's etc!!

Hwy mpg figures are always what save these big engines. Ever since GM used displacement on demand, these big V8's went well into the 20's. The ZO6 does 26mpg highway. Of course, the around-town mpg's don't go anywhere above 17 or 18.

Do you even know that C63 is NOT an American car, bubloo? CTS-V beats C63 in every performance category.

Indeed one of the very few bang for the bucks ride available in today's market. (y) Not a big fan fan of the exterior design but would love to see some interior shots if you took any. Also you forgot to mention the mod potential of this car, since it's detuned ZR1, ECU and pulley will take it to the other level!

^HEMI is Chrysler & Chyrsler is not a part of GM hence proved that Cady does not have a HEMI.

CTS-v engine name is 'LSA'..!It uses the same block as the ZR-1 namely LS9 ..but since CTS-v has a smaller(1.9L) supercharger then the Zr-1(2.3L) so;

CTS-v: LSA!
ZR-1: LS9!

Hemispherical cylinder heads are old school. I believe only Chrysler is using it in today's market.
