Test Drive: Aston Martin Vanquish

Not a big fan of the Vanquish. However, DBS on other hand is the coolest AM, IMO.

Take lot's of exterior pictures of 575!

Aston Martin Vanquish has a handbrake lever on door exit?. that's a weird place considering if yr used to wearing a expensive suit and inseam keeps getting stuck there getting out of car.

The Vanquish has such a universally appealing design that I don't have to mention it in my review :d. The model year was 2003 I believe.

The handbrake has a reverse fly-off design. You lift the handle to engage the brake and move the handle back down. To disengage the brake you move the lever back up past the locking point and move it back down. All Aston's and the Ferrari 575s I drove had this design. Hopefully that explains it.

AM Vanquish is by far the best looking Aston in the world(Excluding the interior).
I love the S version with its 2 tone leather. Vanquish is the only car that i love over its flaws

interior work is fairly ok for very expensive car,

i see glue coming off inside door panel leather. if this happens with Toyota Corolla it is ok, but this car costs lot more.

Yeah there's nothing like actually driving the car. Most of the mainstream car magazines neglect to comment on the little details of the cars that they're reviewing. I've always been able to find certain things that I had never read about in the reviews.

You forgot to point out that this is the last of the Astons IIRC that was built by proper craftsmen at Newport-Pagnell. And that no two Vanquishes (?) are similar. Each body panel is hand fitted and corrected for alignment and gap. That alone in my book makes it more desirable than a DBS (Sorry Ateek :$) I've never seen heard one in the flesh, but from videos I've seen of the Vanquish and DBS, the Vanquish seems a lot louder and rawer, is it?

You bring up some important points. Yes indeed the Vanquish is the last AM model to be built at Newport Pagnell. I think the AM Works department is now based out of the NP facility.

Each Vanquish also drives differently because there's a lot of room for adjustment in the sequential gearbox system.
I think the Vanquish is a little bit louder than the DBS.

I remember seeing the film, "Die another day" just to see the Vanquish duke it out with the XKR. Only later I found out it had a carburetted Ford 302 with 4WD :'(. Ah well, "umeed pay dunya qaim hai" is all that I can say.

wow, nice write up as usually, so profressional! I've seen a "S" version pretty closely, but for the extra money I don't know if that car is worth it. Do you know what the differences are between that model and this?

Thanks! The Vanquish S has 520 bhp and 425 lb-ft of torque while the standard Vanquish makes 460bhp and 400 lb-ft of torque. I asked the AM salesperson if there was a big difference in performance and he said that there wasn't. So i'm happy with just driving the standard car. However, I still want to try out the AM Works manual conversion.
