That time of year again - when split ACs stop working

Skilled and honest split AC guys are a dime a dozen - I know I may be asking a lot but can anyone recommend someone reliable who can go to customers' homes, diagnose the issue, perform a straightforward AC repair job and call it a day?

I've had some really poor experiences with the last few people, so any guidance would be appreciated.

I'm in Karachi, DHA. Thanks for any help or recommendations you can provide.

Note: I can't do it myself and need professional help!

Anyone else? There are far too many split AC con artists out there - this is the only reason I'm asking for some leads here as I can't afford to have my 10-year old split messed up again.

Capsat, I just wanted to thank you generously for the recommendation - I was able to get in touch with a split AC service technician through Darbar Saheb.

He said nothing wrong with it other than it was a bit undercharged. It seemed to make a bit of a difference in cooling after he added gas. But 2-3 hours later, it seems the same as it was: room temperature not going down and moisture in the room not completely going down. It's not chilling the room, you see. Time: 5:20 pm, current Karachi weather.

To my knowledge, aren't both copper pipes, fat and thin one, around the condenser unit outside supposed to be cold to the touch?

The fat return pipe is nice and cold but the thin one is around room temperature or barely cool to the touch. Is this normal?

I should also mention that I'm using a Waves 1.5ton condenser unity with my SG split AC evaporator unit, because the SG condenser needs repairs and is unusable for now.

you can call up again the same person and explain the issue request him to vaccum the system before gas recharge, so that there is no airlock causing system to stop cycling the refrigerant., when air bubble reach the proxomity.

the gas does not magically disappear, there has to be a leak.

He did vacuum the system on my request for 30 mins or so. Leak tested it, says it is okay.

Cooling performance is great, but fat/suction pipe ices up and freezes almost completely after a few hours on auto fan speed, even during the day at a setting of 25 deg C.

The only way for me to prevent freezing on the suction pipe is to keep the AC fan speed on max, with ceiling fan on and temp no lower than 24 or 25 deg C.

Why is there icing on the fat pipe? Air flow restriction in the evap coil? Fan motor capacitor has become weak? System is overcharged?

the guy was a challoo AC technician. "jald-baaz" "jaan chootao" type if you know what I mean.

I got the SG outer fixed and put it back where it belongs - cooling is fantastic but suction pipe freezes up after a while no matter what time of day.

The Waves condenser unit probably has low quality gas and needs a vacuum and high quality gas rec-charge. No leak, new guy I called already tested.

My split has been working fine for the last few days.

yesterday though, I splashed a little water on the condenser coils and since then have noticed that the cooling has gone down only slightly - could be my imagination, not sure.

But on start up, only the first quarter of the thin liquid line freezes up outside the evaporator side. Only for a few seconds.

Please share number of a good AC technician in the Clif/DHA area - I can't seem to find an honest and reliable guy who will restore my AC's cooling properly.

Extremely distressed and can't buy a new AC right away. Any kind of guidance or assistance would be appreciated
