Story of accident below pictures. The Hilux Double cab. The red line shows the Angle Iron (3 inch x 2 inch).
The stock photo of truck show somewhat a angle iron. This picture show it little higher mounted but it can be seen on side of truck up or down welded.
I always wanted to talk about this accident but could not locate pictures. Recently an old friend sent me the pictures which actually I sent him in 1997 via email. I already misplaced the actual photos. The accident happened on August 17, 1997 at around 4pm on Fateh Jang- Kohat Raod. My brother was going back to Cadet College Kohat after spending summer vacations. I am an ex student of the same institution. We were living in Nowshera Cantt at that time and my father was serving in army as a doctor. My brother left for Islamabad on 13[SUP]th[/SUP] August with his friend to spend 14 August in Islamabad and attend a Junoon concert and then leave with his friend back to college from Islamabad.
They were travelling in a brand new un registered Toyota Hilux double cab. My brother was on rear seat behind driver, his friend in front passenger seat and a armed guard was sitting in rear left seat. Little ahead of Fateh Jang somewhere they were at speeds of above 100 on a single road when they started overtaking a 1969 Toyota Corona. There was a large curve in the road and overtaking at first place was not a very good idea by driver on this single rough road. The corona driver started speeding as well. Both vehicle became parallel to each other when a Bedford truck just came at front on the opposite side. The driver of Hilux braked nd tried to save but the front right hit the truck from front and then the Hilux kept dragging on its side and swirled few times on the road. The truck driver steered left at the same time and in the end the truck over turned in the ditch on his left. The corona speed away without even realizing what happened.
Due to crash the front end and right side of the Hilux just went beyond from recognition. The driver of the Hilux ducked down to passenger side foot well area. He had three broken ribs and shoulder injury. The passenger my brother friend was wearing seat belt was in shock as well and not in senses. He was absolutely fine with not a single scratch. The armed guard in the rear left seat was un conscious as he hit the front seat. He had some sort of neck and shoulder bone injury as well. Now the most serious injury. Yes my brother. When the truck and the Hilux crashed some sort of angle iron from the truck detached and went into Hilux like a knife goes through butter. It punctured the hilux at front at engine bay area.. and came inside in dash board through the steering wheel gap?. Passed through the driver seat? entered my brother abdomen and exited through his back and even passed in the rear seat. The angle iron punctured everything and then went back a feet or something. The rear right passenger door was crushed and nowhere attached. My brother fell off from the vehicle. He was in senses at that time. He tried to stand up and at once all his large and small intestines came out of his punctured abdomen. He went in shock.
There were no mobile phones at that time. According to my brother who was still in senses and his friend, people on roads were stopping and just watching and not helping. They asked for help but not a single person stopped. Kohat Pindi road is very busy road and many vehicles passed by but as we all know how some people just don't realize the situation and just remain by standers.
Meanwhile a family from Kohat stopped and they moved my brother to a dispensary in the area with no facilities. My brother friend was able to manage to make call from PCO to his dad who sent an ambulance immediately. Time was running fast. The police came to the hospital and my brother friend told them if they can call us back in Nowshera. I got a call around 530pm and I was told by police wala that my brother expired and we can go to pindi to get the body. I still can?t/want to recall how my family and I spent next three hours when we got call from Pindi that my brother had serious injuries but alive.
Anyway he remained in OT for 9 hours. His intestine had multiple ruptures, his nerves to lower limbs had damage. But Thanks Allah his spine was saved just by few millimeters, his kidneys were fine though his ureter has serious damage and multiple punctures. He spent several months in Hospital. He almost missed 6 months from school time (2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Year FSC). But Thanks Allah he is alive and with us. He went back to college in Feb 1998.And Mashallah he was able to recover from Injuries and missed school time. He is a silver medalist in FSC. He later joined KMC , graduated as a medalist in MBBS and now himself a doctor here in Chicago.
Whenever I ask him about the event.. he always say it was their fault as driver was SPEEDING , OVERTAKING at "WRONG TIME" and at WRONG PLACE & involved in "ROAD RAGE" .
Perfect ingredients for a fatal or serious accident.
I hope my story will help you recount all the events and everyone will drive safe not only for themselves but for others and their own families.
