Well all luxury brands understood that there is big gap between the everyone's daily economical cars and their models. So they came up with these midline models to cover the gap.
Mercedes, Audi fighting hard to gain the small sedans market with starting prices of just below 30K. Mercedes CLA and Audi A3. Landover has Evoque and Mercedes jumped in with GLA. Audi already have Q5. Porsche came with this. This gives manufacturer chance to attract more buyers towards the high end brands. More choices and more attractive prices. .
