sir i have received a video clip of a TV Channel mentioning this website, it happens to be legitimate. however there is no mention of KE in this website. Also it is a private enterprise with task to collect data
very intriguing that it is not at a secure domain http://pitc.com.pk/index.php/about and yet they are collecting sensitive data.

being into IT sector i will not recommend to submit any sensitive data to a non professional private company.

The federal government is likely to issue an ordinance aimed at further regulating net metering in the country because people who installed solar panels on their rooftops have inadvertently caused an increase in the capacity payments to IPPs, a report said on Monday.

The ordinance will also criminalize non-payment of electricity bills, said the report run by a private TV channel.

Pakistan is facing a mounting payment crisis in the power sector mainly due to rising capacity payments to the independent power producers (IPPs). The capacity payments, also called capacity charges, have pushed up power generation costs and consumers have been receiving inflated electricity bills.

Last month I got a bill of 20600 for 231 units at my office. That's almost Rs 90/unit.

4500 fixed charges I get every month even with 0 units consumed.
Actual bill is just Rs 8292
Taxes come to 7808
Total = 20600

They say this month they have again increased the price.

Best time to get fast return on investment on solar is almost over. They have changed the 3 months billing cycle to every month. What this means is you can't off set your exported units with imported units in next or previous 2 months.

Example is I exported 1904 units in April and 1684 units in May and my import was little, just 862 for both months. But in June my export was low about 300-400 units and import was very high but still I was able to adjust my exported units from the previous 2 months against high import of June. Now they pay your miserly 19 rupees per unit every month and if next month your import is higher you have pay for that at 34 rupee per unit plus 30-40% tax. So netting off is now limited to one month.

Soon they are going to get rid of net-metering altogether. You will sell at lower price and buy at higher price, no unit for unit adjustment.

If I generate 1000 units, but consume 500 units in one month

What will happen to the remaining 500 units in my balance?

Say next month I consume 500 units again and generate 0, will net units be 0 as I had leftover 500 units from previous month.

It used to be like that but not any more. You will get Rs 9675 credit for your 500 units. Next month you pay Rs 17000 + tax for the 500 units consumed.

Excess units were converted to Rupees and credit to your account every 3 months(Apr, June, Sep and Dec). Now it's done every month.

I have 5 kw system with net metering installed and want to upgrade to 20 kw with net metering. They say its not allowed and you can get net metering for only upto 10 kw system for more you have to get commercial meter or your own transformer, is it true?

A day ago I got this message in a whatsapp group:

"Hey guys just a heads up: if you’re planning to get solar, before paying the contractor check with KE if your local PMT has capacity to take in another connection or not. There’s PV injection limit on all PMTs , and if the pmt has reached capacity KE will not issue a net meter or will take a lot of time to issue one.
Everyone is going for solar these days and PMTs are reaching their capacity fast."

stay away from net metering. effective immediately.
by Dec 2023 there will be zero benefit for on grid net-metering users. NEPRA is sitting over deep sill throne over the shoulder of IPP & DISCoS. NEPRA will never provide any relief to consumer instead, will gladly relieve consumer of any benefits against their own power generation.

Sir this is quite alarming for someone like me who just put up my system and applied for net metering in Karachi.
What’s your advice in this situation? If net metering goes off, then how does this hardware help me? Hybrid inverter in exchange for the current one to go for an off grid solution? Batteries would also be needed so it’s not a cheap upgrade at all.

am sorry to be so candid. However i can foresee the horizon color and smell of breeze changing the storm is heading our way.

by the time you get a grid export meter installed there will be serious revision of charges by NEPRA for country wide net metering benefits.

someone i know diverted and parallel installed a 6KW hybrid system in Nov 2022.
After sunset / during load shedding shifts to Hybrid unit (batteries during peak hour usage). his ongrid system (installed in Oct 2019 is producing 70% units for grid 30% units used during day) bring him significant benefits.

Are you sure thay have changed from 3 months to every mone? Billing cycle is of 3 months if your export is more than import. In any month if import is more than they conclude in that month. I'm taking about LESCO, any change in that?

Depends on your sanctioned load. Your home would be sanctioned a load and you can go maybe up by 2kw from the load. For example, most 10 marla houses are sanctioned 8-10kw of load by the power company, you can install upto 12.5-13 kw system to offset panel loses and net 10kw export. So check your sanctioned load on your bill or ask your bijli provider.
