Sorry Motown, I have to disagree with you here. ANY car is out of reach for the downtrodden in Pakistan, as is a motorcycle. IF you want to help them, a car isn't the best way to go about it. Setting up a school or a hospital would be much better.
The ideal target group in Pakistan ought to be the mid to lowe middle classes, the ones with a disposible income. The type already considering purchasing a car, or would do so with a good enough credit deal.
For that group, why is a small sized car considered the only option? Why not offer something new to the Pakistani consumer, an affordable Golf sized hatchback. Its not exactly a limo we are talking about here.
I understand the economies of scale concept is somewhat restricted when it comes to the automobile industry, but if you could produce and market a Golf or Civic sized car, retailing the same price as a Mehran, you've got yourself a winner...
