The Chery Riich G6

The Riich series of cars is about to get a shot in the arm thanks to Chery’s first outing of their own self developed and built 3.0L V6 engine. The 3.0L V6 will find its way into the Riich G6 alongside a 5 speed automatic gearbox, the first from Chery’s own range.

The reasoning for a 5 speed transmission instead of the more modern 6 speed is quite simple, Chery’s gearboxes were not up to the torque delivery of the V6 engine which delayed its launch, Chery redeveloped their 5 speed box to cope with the new V6 units 197bhp and 278Nm of torque.

The G6 3.0 V6 model is expected to launch later this year with a price range of around 250,000rmb (31.32 lac PKR)

The Riich brand for Chery is doing pretty good. They have some impressive cars under their belt.. G6 is up against Audis & BMWs, it may still be an inferior product against the mentioned two, but the progress is remarkable.. The Riich G5 stunned Europe at Nurburgring, and the upcoming Riich G3 is also expected to do well for Chery.

Not many Chinese companies have dared to venture into the limousine business, especially as Chinese cars have not been famed for their luxurious levels of quality over the past few years, Hong Qi have come close with their Audi, Toyota and Lincoln based stretched cars but so far no other manufacturers have been able to make a stretched car.

The G6 sedan is already available on the market, the limousine model seems to be on par with the sedan in terms of exterior styling, but of course with a limo it is the interior that counts more than the exterior. Engines are likely to be in the form of a 3.0L V6 from Chery’s ATECO range.

Chery is working to get its new 3.0 V6 in the G6 sedan. The V6 comes with a healthy 197hp and 278nm mated to an equally new 5-speed automatic gearbox. Chery’s existing ‘boxes couldn’t handle power of the V6.

But the power story doesn’t end here. Chery showed a stretched G6 limousine at the Shanghai Auto Show in May. That car will be called ‘Paramount’ and it gets a supercharged version of the V6 with 294hp (!!) and 350nm (!!). That is the most powerful gasoline engine made by an independent Chinese automaker so far.

The Chery G6 was born with government ministers in mind, the government have been told to put down their Audi’s and pick up Chinese branded cars as part of a cost cutting exercise that also benefits the local car industry and also boost the Civil Service in terms of PR. Chery have decided that their already plentiful long G6 is not long enough, so they created a limousine version for VIP’s.

The Chinese press are reporting that this limo is carrying the same 2.0T from the standard sized G6, but as the limo stretches for some 7.2 meters we think that this 160bhp engine is not exactly up to the task of hauling all that metal. On the inside, it seems that Chery have finally got the hand of luxury.
