I live in an area of Karachi labeled as load shedding exempt, 100% bill recovery area, star customer, posh area etc. by K-electric. Yet, there has never been a 30-day period where there hasn't been any electricity tripping. If it's not load-shedding, they call it maintenance work, upgradation, etc. At night in peak summer season, if too many houses turn on their ACs you see fireworks at a distant PMT. During monsoon season, when just a drop of rain falls, k-electric cuts off electricity and you receive a text stating that for the safety of our customers we have turned off the electricity. And how can you forget surges? Lost my washing machine twice, tv once, laptop charger, phone charger, video intercom, microwave. Now every appliance has a stabilizer and few sensitive electronics are connected to a small ups. During winter, load shedding is because power plants did not receive RLNG/fuel. During summer, the demand is just too high for the infrastructure to keep up. It has become a perpetual cycle now.

When such is the state of electric supply in the Holy land's biggest city, how do electric cars expect to take off? As for now, Audi E-Tron, etc. is nothing more than a rich man's toy in Pakistan.

K-electric is another "planet"... Doesn't come under normal utility supply. The problems you have faced, I have all seen them where I live. But with proper mangement from the local govt, most of the issues had been resolved. There was 0-loadshedding in my hometown untill may 2022, but when the regime changed .
Yes I agree that there are many gaps in our energy system, but we have to start somewhere.

You mean the EV charge system is not compatible with the generator power? So what? Almost every house hold DP box has a voltage regulator and surge protectors these days. And people who can afford a BMW will not buy a cheap crap generator atleast.

In an ideal world your propositions sound very pleasing to the ears but in Pakistan when govt. gives subsidy on anything, people start selling those items in black and put premiums on it. This money is then distributed amongst law enforcement and businessmen etc. I bet if electric vehicles take off somehow (highly unlikely) govt. will increase electricity prices even higher. Moreover battery technology isn't feasible to rely on yet. Maybe in future.
Also, yes reliance of fossil fuel is our weakness and hydro power might be the answer. Don't know what happened to Diamer Bhasha Dam project which is expected to finish till 2027.

Yep - EV is probably the way to go, along with renewable energy sources. In "developed world", they are using solar and wind farms to generate electricity and huge batteries to store this energy. The idea is to be able to capture as much energy during high production hours, and store excess into batteries for hours of demand.

Think of it, like using solar to charge your huge UPS batteries, so when WAPDA pulls the power cord, you rely on your UPS, only difference being that your UPS battery is huge and highly efficient, so it lasts a lot longer, and secondly, you charge it using solar, so you are not paying WAPDA for it. Win win!

I do not think anyone is defending oil companies. Somethings are just reality and i would be glad to buy an EV if its sorted out properly. Right now we have the Aria and JOLTA. I actually called jolta people to inquire about the bike and the first question the guy asked me was "Are you from Media?" Tells you something. Also i read a lot and seems its not yet worth it. 5 month battery life and such. Still hoping for better solutions.

Jolta are just pakistani scrap bikes turned into Escooties with cheap parts. They have no QC and legislation. Too many fire incidents happened. Rinco is a 3000 USD car sold for 15000 USD in Pakistan. Where is the EV tax and custom reduction for a country that is nearest to China? Pakistan has a pathetic govt. with rubbish rules.

VW reveal production ready concept ID-Aero. The sedan model will join the VW’s EV brand "ID" , which already have models like ID-3 Hatchback, ID-4 Crossover, ID-5 Crossover Coupe, ID-6 China only Crossover with stretched wheelbase based on ID-4, ID Buzz Van. Aero will be VW brand's 6th model based on the VW/ AUDI MEB electrified dedicated modular platform .

VW didn't reveal the interior but it might follow the footsteps of the other models in the ID range. VW didn't share any tech details but did confirm that model will have a 620km of driving range on full charge as per WLTP / European standards.

As the name AERO suggest, the car has a drag coefficient of 0.23. We can expect both single motor RWD or dual motor AWD versions. The model will be officially released later this year and probably go in production first in China and later for Europe and North America by mid 2023.

Because of high demand in China, VW will produce the model with its two joint ventures, FAW-VW as well as SAIC-VW. The European and American model will be produced in Germany. VW will market Aero as a premium model based on its features, design, equipment, quality of materials.

The car has an exceptionally long wheel base and will have a total length of 16 feet so, expect a generous space on the interior. On exterior ; front , the side profile do take influence from other models in the ID range.

By the way , we will have a electric sedan Ioniq-6 from Hyundai probably next few days. Lets see what Hyundai is up to.
