■What is Suzuki's BEV strategy?
On January 26, 2023, Suzuki announced its BEV sales plan along with its growth strategy for fiscal year 2030. The company will introduce light commercial BEVs from fiscal year 2023, and will introduce six models by fiscal year 2030.
According to the document, it does not mean that all vehicle models will be BEVs by 2030, but rather that the powertrain ratio in 2030 will be 80% hybrid and 20% BEV. It also states that new hybrids for light and compact cars will be developed, providing users with a wide range of options along with BEVs.
The document includes a headline stating that BEVs will be introduced by fiscal year 2023, with six models to be rolled out by fiscal year 2030, along with the silhouettes of six models. Looking at the black silhouettes, the top row (from left) shows the Alto, Wagon R, and Hustler. The bottom row (from left) appears to show the Every, the Fronx announced at the Auto Expo in India on January 11, 2023, and the eVX, Suzuki's first global strategic EV vehicle that is planned for commercial release by 2025.
The company plans to launch a total of 17 BEV models, six each in Japan and India, and five in Europe. In Europe, BEVs will be introduced from FY2024 and will be expanded to the B-segment SUVs, etc., with five models available by FY2030.
"Suzuki Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation have decided to expand their collaboration and have Suzuki supply Toyota with an SUV-type battery electric vehicle (BEV) developed by Suzuki on an OEM basis. Production of the new model is scheduled to begin in spring 2025 at Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited in India."
A few days later, on November 4th, Suzuki announced that "Suzuki's first mass-produced battery EV model, the e-Vitara, will go on sale in Japan, Europe, India and other countries around the world from around summer 2025."
After the e-Vitara comes the next-generation Hustler EV, the eWX, which will be called e-Hustler!?
Also, based on the published range of 230km per charge, the battery is expected to be close to 30kWh. The price is expected to be between 2.6 million and 3 million yen. The release date will be around 2026, after the e-Vitara, which will be released after the summer of 2025.
However, not all next-generation Hustler models will be BEVs; rather, it is certain that the main powertrain will be a 48V mild hybrid (48V Super-Ene Charge) along with lighter weight.

Fuel economy exceeds that of the Prius?? [Next-generation Corolla] will appear in 2026, carrying the future of internal combustion engines!!!
The Corolla has been Toyota's backbone for almost 60 years. The current 12th generation model is now in its sixth year on the market, and we're eagerly awaiting information on the next-generation model. The latest information on the next-generation Corolla is that it will be equipped with a groundbreaking engine and is likely to be released in 2026!
When talking about the new Corolla, it is essential to mention the "Multi-Pathway Workshop" jointly held by Toyota, Subaru, and Mazda in May 2024.
Toyota unveiled two engines that seem to pave the way for the future of internal combustion engines, and it is highly likely that the new Corolla will be equipped with one of these engines, a 1.5L inline 4-cylinder engine.
One of its features is its overwhelming thermal efficiency. Looking around the world, China's BYD has announced a PHEV engine with a thermal efficiency of 46.06%, and Nissan is aiming for over 50% for its next-generation e-POWER engine. These figures exceed those of Toyota, which has achieved high efficiency with its Dynamic Force engine.
Toyota is expected to achieve thermal efficiency with its new 1.5L engine that will match or even surpass those of its rivals.
Another feature of the new engine is its compactness: despite being a four-cylinder engine, its volume is 10% smaller than the current 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, and its overall height is 10% lower.
What this new engine will bring to the next-generation Corolla is an overwhelmingly smaller engine room. This allows the cabin to be moved forward and the bonnet height to be lowered, minimizing air resistance.
Thanks to this engine, the new Corolla is likely to be highly practical while also outperforming the fuel economy of the current Prius
The main powertrain will be the aforementioned 1.5-liter 4-cylinder hybrid, but pure engine models and PHEVs will also be available. The fuel efficiency of the PHEV in particular is overwhelming, and there is also information that the theoretical range on a full tank exceeds 2000km.
The next-generation Corolla will have a larger passenger compartment due to the reduction in the engine room, making it more spacious than you would expect from an internal combustion engine vehicle. 2026 marks the 60th anniversary of the birth of the Corolla, and it is highly likely that a new model will be released at this time. We look forward to seeing it.
