You right about the huge support of aftermarket parts for a lux, and scarcity of such for other brands. But I wonder, since all these vehicles share almost same architecture/suspension, can these aftermarket parts be installed to other brands as well, as everyone is not as lucky as saidhi...:), an average condition lux costs almost double-triple if not more compared to other brands.
Any guidance to a nissan khokha will be highly appreciated.

well imtishal, the truth is that anything is possible... i'm sure you can transplant an IFS lux setup on hardbody, the right way to do it would be to get a half-cut for a lux, vigo, prado, surf and mate that to the hardbody chassis. Make sure you have a good welder (preferable argon welder) and that your chassis joints are dove-tail joints and (not straight joints) and that you reinforce the welded areas. suhaib can brief you on a encounter of his with an FJ40 with a IFS prado setup upfront. this isnt going to be cheap but will work quite nicely.

going the solid axle way is easier and has plenty of options...although the rig would end up being more of a rock crawler than a desert racer... i like the city saddar waalas as they are open to pungas... go there throw some ideas around and you might come up with a workable solution...

i would also look up stuff thats developed for nissan frontiers and titans...dont know if those could be used on the hardbody. nissan did have plenty of support for the hardbody back in the day but not anymore... you'll find some stuff on "infamousnissan.com"...also i remember coming across a hardbody prerunner build somewhere as well... happy hunting

Me and Akif took out the Hilux for a short test drive yesterday. Still some blips and blops to work on, but the car seems to be in road ready status. Need new tires for a full road test as the rear is very light, the thing goes into a wheel spin without the old Saveros making any sort of screeching sound and you can't really tell how much of a spin you have going at the back until you have the tail fluttering and dancing. The gearing is much shorter than the Concordias and while without the RPM at this stage we cannot tell whether the rev cut is at the full 6500 or not, but gear cut offs from the speedo seem to be around 45kmph (1st) and 80 kmph (2nd) which seem to be as expected from the 4.88 diffs and R151 gearbox. The car is super torquey though and one can expect that its going to be quite fast on the upper end in 3rd and 4th with am impressive top speed not to mention good sand performance....

How was the engine temperature with the old radiator?

The engine temperature on the stock guage remained normal. However the cabin was pretty hot, firstly because the silencers are right under it and secondly I suspect that the engine bay now clogged by the square 1UZ does not have adequate air outlets. We would need to put some vents on the bonnet and the sides to optimize air flow regardless of the radiator. An oil cooler has been installed on the front grill though not connected as yet, oil and water temperature gauges will also be installed as I don't really trust the stock temp guage as at times it only shows the problem once its too late to do anything about it....

We will have to insulate the firewall side of the cabin,, I remember Defender had no insulation there and despite its dual air conditioner, it was never comfortably cool inside the cabin.

Installing aftermarket oil and water temperature gauges is a good idea, guess a RPM meter can be included with them

For vents on bonnet, what do you have in mind, Toyota Surf's intercooler like scoop on bonnet or something even bigger? Do you suggest that we should have a fiberglass bonnet. I have a fiberglass wala in Lahore and he can make us any type of bonnet

Apparently after looking through the net, the airflow problem on a Hilux 1UZ is a real one and not just something I imagined. A fiber bonnet with extensive fins/vents (trophy truck style) would seem to be the way to solve it. In the meantime we would continue testing with the bonnet removed for now. Looks quite horrid but .....

agree with suhaib over there, qasim the bonnet scoop will not work. you'll need vents on both the hood and the sides. No fiber please, ive seen the stuff spontaneously combust, the resins used locally arent the same as are used elsewhere for trophy trucks etc.. i would say go aluminium or just put in slots/ vents in the current hood.

for the exhaust pipes is suggest using the "namda" rope commonly available to shield the pipes... they should stop heat from radiating onto other things... as for the unrunly rear...well having spun in a lux at speed a while ago (dont ask! i have a habit of doing these things) may i suggest some weight addition at the back... also i think a "kamani" odd less both upfront and outback will be good

@sk i like your "payadaar hal", the concept is great and to make it payadaar the execution has to be top notch as there are a lot of points of failure, some nice aluminum pipe lengths with kabuli rubber connectors, silicon hoses will be even better.

over some short testing of 2jz, i have found that head is the real problem, and insane amount of hood and fender vents will be needed, we even with the biggest possible radiator in the second hand market are not able to control temperatures till now.

exhaust is also a main problem, and because the headers are so close to other things better to wrap them as already suggested.
