The most Horsepower you can get from 20v Blacktop

Guys i've heard rumours(and read on the internet) that u can't get more than 215hp or can't get upto 300-400hp from a 20v,Is this true.I'm asking cuz i'm thinking of swapping a blacktop in a 98 JDM Corolla myself and although i'll happily accept the 165hp from the stock engine,but i just wanted to clear this misconception up.

depends how much $$ you put into it. 400hp is lot of power for a 1600cc

btw: for serious and skilled driving ,, above 200hp is no joke. you need proper training to handle the car, plus you dont get results by just increasing horsepower,, have to tune rest of car according the engine HP.

In NA tune you will be lucky to get more then 200hp from the BT

Thanks for the info racer bhai,190-200hp in NA is more than enough for me.BTW what abt after u Turbocharge it or Supercharge than how much hp can u get out of it cuz the BT's compression is 11 and where would one find low compression pistons for it?

Well you can turbo charge it but with not much luck, any claims above 250hp claim I have to see a dyno results in order to believe it. But then again just to satisfy customers you can change dyno figures and very easily done on Dyno Jet and Mustang dynos.

The reason is that 20v has very weak block for turbo charging, cannot withstand a lot of boost without doing some damage. You can change piston to lower compression but what do you do with the weak block?

well its was made a iron block instead of aluminum to withstand its requirements as high compression N/A,,, again 20v wasnt designed as racerf1 mentioned for forced induction. one has option to use 4agze block as it came stock supecharged.

4age20v setups whether Bt or St peak at 6psi boost,, have seen small turbos installed on BT

if you want more powerthan a 4age engine,, better option to select a 2litre 3sge engine instead of fighting with 4age modifications.

Thanks for the info bhai,one more thing,I've heard you should only high octane petrol in 20v's,is this true,u can't use regular petrol even when your driving with a light foot on the pedal and not reving the pistons out of of it?BTW i'm still waiting for your email id :).

And one more thing I'm getting a complete 20v BT setup for around 90-100k,is that a fair price for it?And how much shot of NOS is safe for a stock 20v BT and what can one do to make it withstand 150-200 shots of NOS.(NOS seems a better option don't u guys think so,cuz I'm not gonna be racing all the time :)?)

i still would opt for a bigger engine if yr looking for more horses than standard 4age 20v. the stock condition engine is best solution unless yr a experienced modification person. and yes if have knowhow in engine mechanics. trying out "Z" block is option, but may cost you more experimenting in case something goes wrong.

Hmmm,well the BT's 165 horses will do for now & i'll add stage 1 mods so that'll be a few horses more,And what abt NOS shots,how much is safe for a stock 20v BT?BTW u can email me your id on thehulk911@hotmail.com.

Yes you can do that and end up making better power then the BT. But it all depends what you are aiming for drag racing, no matter what you do it is not enough coz there will be some out doing you.

The thing is that if u get 165 hp from stock one!! it's good!!!! the modifications doesn't mean installing the goddamn headers and piping and the stage one shits!!!!
The point is that first tune the engine on NA coz what if the crank blows after forced induction! Blacktop is a whole lot better than silvertop....has wider throttle bodies, wider exhaust head gaskets, cams modified for high lift and they are lighter, the piston designed has been changed...moreover blacktop has a MAP sensor instead of common AFS. the compression is higher (11:!) as compared to silvertop (10.5:!). this makes it a whole lot bigger machine!!! for tuning purposes we must go for each and every single piece installed in that engine!!!
1. we can put throttle bodies with comparatively large diameter.
2. need to get the bearings, springs and valves..high lift cams
3. bigger fuel rails probably anodized ones from PHR.
4. lighter fly wheel
5. bigger injectors
6. high performance distributor ( that can withstand high voltages ~70000 V) as compared to ordinary one (~30000V)
7. Toyota OEM waterpump
8. larger head gaskets
9. Pistons with a smaller head (only for forced induction)
10. High flow powerhouse racing modified oil pump.
11. Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator.
These modifications could certainly be withstood by the block.....probably u need a good gearbox......these modifications might give u big digits on dyno...for more u need forced induction and there will be more game in the engine...
