Im getting a brand new Pantech a820 but I was reading about it and it seems gprs doesn't work on it. And thats because I reckon its CDMA. Anyone here owns one of these? Please share any experience that you guys have with this phone..

I'm in love with Pantech sky vega phones, but is it true most phones coming here are CDMA? Because users have reported problems of GPRS not working on these phones. Also, can anyone guide me to where I can get a brand new Pantech?

gprs works on sky, even edge works but you have to flash a proper custom rom . All sky phones require custom rom to make everything work.

Thank you emenent, that is what I thought, I read up on this but could not confirm the authenticity of it, not too much information is available on the internet about these phones.

You have to get baseband flashed, these phones have 3 version l, s and k and all have different basebands. The person who installed custom rom has flashed wrong baseband. This could be the only problem

Sure, you can flash original E975 rom if you want. It works perfectly but EDGE doesn't work on Korean LG phones, GPRS works, there is an international configuration which requires to be changed and is a complex process to make EDGE work. Meanwhile GPRS works flawlessly

as rightly suggested by emenent , the problem is not with your firmware ... its with your baseband version (when you install any hardware component in your pc , you have to install its driver as well and if you install wrong drivers the component will not work properly ... in the very same manner baseband is the driver for your cell radio and in your case the correct version is not installed )

Firstly you have to root your cell and then install correct baseband from cwm recovery.

the main issue with some of the Korean phones/models is the 80 character limit in sms text editor. an sms having more than 80 characters will not be sent. so be careful while buying a korean version of any handset.

No worries on that. Get "go sms pro" app installed on ur phone. It will automatically increase characters to 160. Or just install original software in rs. 300 or 400.

I think the build quality of korean fones much better than international fones as all mades by korea.. i m using orignal lg lte2 since a month its quite good n blazing fast..if u are on international roms thn more fantastic . I refer to buy original companies korean made fones in cheap price and get converted in int. Roms....

just seems to be worried about 2 things..., 1. while on wifi and games it gets hot from back really fast. and 2. battery drains really fast on wifi ..

is this normal or should i do some thing about it..?

yes, LG phones consumes lot of power in wifi and screen on. IPS screen is a battery hog, the phones gets hot. no issues , everything ok

absolutely right, the developers have come up with all in one rom with seperate baseband to flash for all the three models, you have to search the baseband zip and flash via CWM recovery
