Amazing indeed. Hale-Bopp was a record breaking comet in many ways. I'm thankful that I can look back to getting hooked on my avocation with fond memories - not only of the comet, but also of a solar eclipse and an expedition to Jupiter, both in 1995. Funny how a shot of the eclipse should merge with the theme of this thread.

A german named Ralf Koschack had come to Pakistan for the eclipse. Among his other aims for the trip was to see the (Cholistan) desert and "touch sand", in his own words.
This eclispe was partial in Karachi. Ammi had kept us from school that day, and we observed the partial eclipse with welder's shades.
