The Phantom is finally starting to shape up. The latest addition has been the OEM fiberglass roof from a long body FJ. It's just a LITTLE bit too long, as can be seen from the photos. Which will imply that we have to saw off a few inches from the middle of the roof, and fiberglass-weld it back together again.

I've tested the roof height myself. While I'm sitting in the rear of the beast, the roof is a good six to eight inches clear of the top of my head. This seems perfect, and will allow us to ponder all sorts of options for the roof, by means of a "false ceiling". Cabin lights, speaker systems, audio-visual gadgets and the like, are many options that immediately spring to mind.

I'm pleased with the way things are shaping up...even though the pace at WHICH they're shaping up, is making me grow terribly impatient with each passing day!

Good going Fouad Bhai! Abhee to ishq kee shuruaat hain, aap abhee se impatient ho rehay hain You know very well ke, test match mein impatience kee gunjaaish nahin hotee! Aur yeh to chey din wala test match hai Abhee to rest day aanaa hai aur neyee innings shuru honee hai (mechanical finalisation!). Just by way of reference (though not a very good one) my Jeep Baltoro took two years to complete (not kidding!) .... it used to parked at the same spot . Hang on in there sir!

I can feel that viewers are appreciating how much work it actually is to make/modify a full vehicle body by hand! Hats off to Jamil Bhai for his painstaking attention to detail and quality of work!!!

I had a chance to see the vehicle this saturday. Met Jameel ustaad too and had some gup shup against the same vehicle. Seeing it live was a different experience. Although it's too early to comment but can imagine how things will shape up and what strong a personality it will turn into. BRAVO sir. I hope the mechanical part, which is going to be really technical, also gets completed the same way.

Brother, the seats are taken from the rear (cargo compartment) of a Grand Cruiser.

However, I won't be using these ones as they're far too bulky, and broad, and unwieldy, for the rear of the Phantom's cabin. Instead, I'll be using the rear seats from a GMC Suburban.

My apologies, boss. I've been horribly busy with some official commitments over the past couple of weeks, which has made me unable to even be online, much less visit the rebuild site.

I'm told that the coachwork is coming along well. We're done with the cabin, and should have the roof installed, shortly.

An additional 6 inches are being added to the frame at the rear, so as to be able to handle the somewhat lengthened "daala". Work on this, and the rear wheel mount, should begin shortly, thereafter. The seats are being set up...rear GMC seats (which I've found) and Recaro/Sparco seats for the front (which I haven't found, yet).

Actually, Faisal...it looks pretty @#$%ing HOT!

I've discussed the possibilities of having a stack / chimney / upright exhaust connected to a straight, large-bore pipe earlier on, in this thread. While I'm not going to opt for a double stack, as shown in this picture...a single upright exhaust is definitely on the cards. I'm thinking of something in chrome and black, though. Let's see how that goes!

On the other hand though, brother, while (as an enthusiast) I'm impatient to see how the beast turns out...I DO realise that the enormity of the task - crafting something of this sort, by hand, from scratch - is a very taxing job indeed. Which is why I try to not transfer my impatience to the rebuild team.

I feel that this rebuild has struck a chord within Jamil Ustaad's core, by REALLY challenging his capabilities. And the way he has risen to this challenge, is admirable, indeed.

To be honest, after the initial brainstorming / designing / finalising of the design essence...I've made hardly any contribution to the way the product is turning out, at all. It's been pretty much on auto-pilot. Other than some minor suggestions pertaining to aesthetics and/or functionality, the credit for this must go to the rebuild team...Jamil, Nikku, and Imran Ustaads.

I just wish they'd bloody hurry up! Whoops...there's that streak of impatience, again!

You're quite right. So many of my friends who have been following this thread, have been rendered speechless after seeing it in real life...despite having a general idea of what it looks like!

I have a good feeling about the mechanicals, Noman. ALL the parts being used (the engine, transmission, transfer case, differentials, axles, brakes, exhaust, shocks, etc) are pretty much THE best available items of their kind. No expense has been spared in procuring them...and no corners will be cut in installing them, Insha Allah.

I'm a firm believer in "do your best, then leave the rest, to God".

Allah behtar karega!
