Tomorrow is going to be perhaps the most important, most difficult, and most critical part of the build: the body drop.
Thus far, we've achieved quite a lot in a comparatively short time span. The frame has been readied, the suspension fitted, the body has been mounted, the wheels and spacers have gone on, the engine and transmission now sit comfortably within the engine bay. Yesterday, the cross member and foundation that supports the transmission went into place...pretty much completing work with major items that need to go into the car. Minor stuff, like exhaust, steering, cooling and electrical systems still remain, though.
At this stage, the frame sits about as low as we want it to go. Which is why we've waited for the body channeling till now. We're planning to drop the body by 7-8 inches, which should still leave us with enough clearance to negotiate the atrocious speed-breakers and potholes on our roads, but still keep the look nice and low. Depending on our progress with the channeling tomorrow, we'll slice a few inches off the pillars and windshield as well...so as to alter the roof-line dramatically. After all of the chopping, a lot of welding is going to follow...while we join everything back, in their new positions.
All of this is exciting stuff...and for me, personally, is uncharted territory. If it succeeds (Insha Allah), we'll have a beautiful exotic car on our hands. If not (Na'uz u Billah), we'll have a chopped up wreck to deal with.
I take comfort from the fact that I haven't seen any other builds of this sort being attempted. We have restored cars, and resto-modified cars, and modified cars...but no build I've seen attempts to fuse together so many different functions and forms. Let's hope that Allah blesses us with fruits to our labours!
