To answer your query @lazeez POR 15 isn't really available in Pakistan through retailers but then there are ppl like @nmshaikh who buy 50USD quart bring it over and offer to sell it for 150USD to those who dont have means to bring the same themselves.

Here is the UK delivered price for EIGHT POR 15 quarts that I recently bought in UK and bringing in for my projects this March.

Had I known you needed some at the point in time I ordered these, I would have helped you with your supply. As my contact is already hitting road tomorrow who will be carrying these for me with him. He would take a europe trip and would bring me these in March.

Posted this so that everyone could have a fair idea of what exactly the cost is like to hire the "self-conceived PRO" to do your work for you through ppl whom you could hire directly for a price thrice less than the "self-conceived PRO" would charge you.

Looks like the pain of yesterdays shafting hasn't subsided. For one thing I never offered to sell item to the person who asked this question. secondly I too have an invoice for what I have. Anyone is free to buy from any source available at a price if they agree to pay. This is the internet age when the prices are available on the net for anyone to compare you don't have to be the self proclaimed savior of the masses. Maybe if the pain is unbearable you might want to share the prices of some of the items i sourced for you in the US bought and brought for you delivery ex-Islamabad..

I had parts shipped to Canada before they were sent to Pakistan. Canada is a different country than the US so anything crossing international borders is subjected to customs, duties and brokerage fees. Yes I would like to help the VW community but I never claim to be running a charity. I spend MY money upfront to buy these parts that may remain unsold for long periods of time. I pay $125 per extra piece of baggage (23 kg.) to the airline when I bring them in, cost of which i have to divide over all parts contained. There is something called the financial cost (I don't expect you to know that but you can google it too) I would like you to share here, how much you were charged for the tail section (clip) delivered in Pakistan. I did not 'produce' it! I looked for it on the samba and bought the best rust free part in California, (California is the US..google it) had it shipped to my residence, stored it till I could get it across to you. If you have an iota of shame you would share the prices of everything that you got at cost. Here I would like to confirm that while I did source these parts and stored them before sending over, you paid for the parts either in advance or on demand. It would have been unfair to charge you a mark-up and I did not. How about the Ruby red hood? Would you like to share how much would it have cost to have it shipped? or the decklid? ...and how much did you pay? Or share with everyone how much you paid for the set of Bug-pack bushings that you asked me to buy and bring for you.. How much of my time I had to spend following up on that order alone as JC Whitney delayed it? I have your e-mails but those were a one to one comunication and i have the decency to not put them here. We are not in a court of law to provide evidence or proof. You wanted me to restore your car for you and ever since I quoted a price and declined to accept your project you have been writing these idiotic comments and bickering about prices being too high or .....

Caustic soda comes in powder form and when mixed with water forms a hot corrosive solution that is applied to the surface that may have rust or oily residue. The solution dissolves rust or oil and leaves the surface clean ready for a quick rinse with water and the spraying of primer. As i mentioned in an earlier post the ideal thing to do would be media blasting to remove rust but those facilities are either non existent or not available for general public therefore we have to make do with whatever is the next best..

The term 'bath' was used loosely and not like a tank of caustic soda that the body shell is going to be dipped in.

I wouldn't try it on the engine.. It does not leave the surface fit to be left as is without being painted and you cannot paint the engine.

The topic of cleaning the engine parts etc has been discussed in one of the forums but sadly no one has come up with info re. a facility that would do the job in Rawalpindi / islamabad.

The Pan or chassis has been welded. New floor panels brought in from the US were grafted and the welded seams ground. The rolling chassis was pushed to the service station for a thorough wash using kerosene and soda mix followed by a pressure wash. unfortunately we do not have running hot water which would have aided the removal of caked gunk.

The boys at the service station did a reasonable job and returned the chassis back to the workshop in as good a condition as was possible.

The next job was to remove the front and back beam and transmission which would expose all areas but would make it a non-rolling chassis so to get it to any place it would need to be lifted manually. I am thinking of fabricating a jig that the pan could be attached to and rotated on its axis so it can be worked on both sides. The jig or rotisserie would also be equipped with pneumatic wheels allowing it to be moved around the shop. I have the drawings but just need time.

After the removal of the aforementioned parts the pan has now reached the painter for micro cleaning and getting the pan ready for POR 15 application.

Apologies for the long delay in bringing you the update on this project. Work meanwhile continued and I took pictures too but just didn't get a chance to post.

We updated to the point when the floor pan was all done up with new panels welded in place. Up until that point we had the wheels attached to the pan so it could be shifted around the workshop. As a next step the front axle beam and the tranny were removed to expose any hard to reach areas. The floor pan meanwhile was propped against the wall and was manually cleaned and treated. When all the layers of grime were cleaned the pan was treated with POR 'Marine clean' to remove any remaining oily residue. As a final step POR 'Prep and Ready' was sprayed with a hand operated spray bottle. We used silver POR 15 as it contains metal filler which fills holes and cracks better than POR Black or clear. It is also recommended for
areas that may have some pitting. The whole frame is going to be painted glossy black as a last step
