At around 1530hrs we crossed the Raikot Bridge and proceeded our journey towards Gilgit. The road after Raikot Bridge is worth dream to drive on. Karakoram Highway at its best. There are some patches in which u can speed upto 100-150kmph. In Mehran we had to take care of ourselves as well so we hit max 110kmph

Na na, there is no patch where one can go as high as 150kmph.....well before achieving this speed one can summit nanga parbat without spending $25,000.

3 factors are involved in a joyful drive (a) machine (b) person behind the wheel (c) very well remembered turns, ups & downs on the highway by (b) the person. Those drivers of wagons and buses drive aggressively on KKH because they drive daily and even remember each and every pothole. I have never tried to copy them though I am driving on the highways for the last two decades and have driven on KKH four time already.

After few kilometers from raikot bridge there comes junction of Skardu Road. We had a short stop for some snaps and then proceeded to Gilgit as we had to reach before the sunset.

It was mentioned that Skardu is 193km over Deosai, that's why I presumed its junction point to Skardu. However there was another road leading to Skardu as well just before Gilgit.

Well its not about reaching a top speed of 150km/hr rather than having a joyful ride on KKH. But there are straight patches like the one in following image where we having a Mehran (which has no good acceleration and traction control) touched 110-120k's. So one can easily touch high ups easily having comparatively good ride.

At around 1030hrs we entered Karimabad. We didn't stop as we had to move further. Our target was to Cross Atabad Lake early, reach Khunjerab Pass and come back to Hunza by evening.

road is much better now. I was there in 2011.. full road from badgram till Attaabad lake was stones only, messed up the full front HISA of out Indus corolla.

Yes, the roads are much better now. The road adds its own charm. Not much work worth mentioning on return except replacing the burst tire.

At around 1030hrs we reached Hunza. The weather was great. We didn't stop as we had to proceed further to Khunjerab Pass. On the way there was a spot of Sacred Rocks of Hunza.

The road was amazing as usual and scenery amused us with its views

At around 1100hrs we reached the Atabad Lake. Crystal Clear Colorful water welcomed us with its breathtaking view.

You should definitely try. Its definitely worth it. One thing I should mention that our car was EFI Mehran. Secondly your car should be tuned well. Rest roads are ok. Advantage of mehran is its road clearance. Disadvantage is its uncomfortable ride. But its fun to take Mehran on such big journeys.

what difference would it make if the car is NOT Efi.

perhaps a 1000cc pkdm Alto can bear the harshness of this trip gloriously...
