Day 07 : 09 Sep 2015 Eagle's Nest to Khunjrab Pass and back to Bunji (Near Jaglot) Night Stay
Next day as it was confirmed now that we will go to Khunjrab Pass via Attabad lake. The plan was to reach Khunjrab Pass and then back to Chilas for night stay. In morning we packed up and left Eagle's Nest at 10: 00 and reached Attabad Lake at 10:45. Color of Attabad lake was very charming and eye catching. Well bargained with one of the boat owner for two way, agreed at 3,500/-. It took us almost 45 to 50 mins to cover the distance. After reaching at the other side took number of the boat owner for going back by boat again. On thing he mentioned while on way back we could try to go through the tunnel by requesting the duty officers that might help us to go back via tunnel. Well we were again on the road at Shishkat drop point.
Then I didn't stop until the Khunjrab Pass (Excluding the check posts), I managed to reach Khunjrab Pass in 2hrs & 15mins.
From here the KKH really fascinate you with its amazing, mesmerizing & scenic beauty. The Passu Cones, The Passu Glacier, Batura Glacier. Sust is the last and populated area in Khunjrab National Park region.
The Khunjrab pass one can dream reaching and registering their-self there. We were one of them too. The scenic & mesmerizing beauty of Khunjrab Pass was really fascinating. 15,400 Feet above sea level, the highest paved road in the world its certainly a dream to reach at this highest paved road and pass in the world. We were quite happy to be there.
There was a plan to climb a nearby mountain by my Pajero to make record attaining the altitude of nearly 16,000 feet but suddenly on the arrival of some Member of National Assembly I was unfortunately stopped by the security to go off the track. Because in the presence of the Minister no such activity could be done. That was very bad I was very anxious to make that record by attaining the altitude of 16,000 feet, suggested by our Club's (Islamabad Jeep Club) senior member Mr. Sohaib Kiani (@Sohaibkiani). I was very much determined and passionate to do this. But all in vein on the arrival of Minister. Well I was running short of time because I had the target to reach Chillas by 9:30 or 10: 00 PM. We left Khunjrab Pass and took a break at Sust for a cup of tea, after roaming around in Sust for some time we left and reached Attabad Lake, I tried to call the boat owner but due to the signal problem I couldnt contact with him. Then I suddenly recalled what he said. I reached near the entry point and requested the officials to go through the tunnel. I told them its getting dark and the boat owner is out of contact. They were so nice to help me out, asked me to wait for sometime until some of their own official vehicle come. We waited almost 15 mins and here it came the security officials asked us to follow them. Wow that was the time we were very happy to go through the tunnel. There are 2 tunnel of 9 km each. Well we exit the tunnel in very short time and we were good to go ahead.
Now the target was to reach Chilas by any mean. I was paddling to the floor to reach as earliest as possible. I reached the last check post on carpeted KKH at 10: 00 PM, there is hardly 1 hr drive from check post to Chilas. But the security officers didn't let us go ahead because of the security reasons. I argued them a lot to let me go on my own behalf but the didn't listen me and I was forced to moved back and to stay somewhere in Jaglot. By reaching there I called one of my friend in Army and requested him if he can manage some night stay for us. He was so kind and called back with the information to go to Bunji Army Mess. Took a deep breath after reaching Bunji for night stay.
That was the end of the Day 07, Alhamdoulillah.
