What about the 2L-T? I know it' a much smaller engine and there is no coparison with 1KZ-TE. I have heard horror stories about the head cracking and all.

Not my personal experience but from what I have learned, 2F for low end torque and offroading and 2JZ for on road fun.

Try to stay Diesel
You will love it .
Fuel average of 3F is not very good unless you go for brand new carby in it .

The difference between these big Toyota Petrol and Diesel engines is just like the different between your Girl Friend and wife...

Like a girl friend Petrol(2F, 3F, UZs....) are light quiet and perform very well, heavy on your pocket in terms of daily running and at the same time temperamental You never know one morning they start giving you trouble...

Like a wife Diesels(2Bs, 3Bs, 2Hs, 12HTs....) are heavy lumpy very noisy, low on hp high on torque, very reliable, return better KMs per liter,do not require a lot of maintenance, and if you keep the battery charged they always crank up...

So make a choice now..

The only problem is regular upkeep and maintenance. I haven't come across a mechanic yet who can tune a diesel correctly. Motors like 2F on the other hand are a piece of cake and a person like me can easily tune it and even adjust tappets etc.

You will get better milage and a lot lot better speed with 2jz-ge (vvti) than 2f or 3f carby.

I have never owned a vehicle with a 2F bro. However, I have extensive experience with Corollas and Charade CB60. I know for a fact that 2F is a much older engine and there should not be any rocket science in tuning it.

As for the carburettor, Installing a new one or maybe rebuilding the old one as per factory specs should not be too much of a pain. On the other hand, I know a mechanic who used to tune our 74, 78 Corollas properly and then used to check the mileage with a bottle attached and everything.

Diesels are still a mystery to me despite having owned a 2C powered Townace. The visits to the diesel labs and hit and run pump settings are a real pain in the behind!
