I bought a 2000 model toyota vitz in 2008 for PKR 525,000. Used it for 4 years, never had any parts trouble either in place like Lahore nor in smaller cities like Chakwal or Sargodha (cities i travel to often).
Car ran beautifully, its fuel consumption was better than any local made car of its category (15km/Liter inside city with AC and 18km/Liter on motorway). Plus car had following features :
- VVTi engine
- Airbags
- ABS
- Power windows
- Power Steering
- Automatic Transmission
- CD player (company fitted)
These features are not available on any car of 1000cc category assembled in Pakistan.
Before i forget i sold the same car after 4 years at a price of PKR 670,000, so much for the poor resale value.
Even today i own another imported 1500cc car and frankly its performance is hell lot better than any of the car available from the local assemblers. Even Toyota XLi does not come with ABS, airbags or power windows.
Last but not the least question to TOYOTA INDUS, also sells quite a few Imported car model (which are not assembled in Pakistan) namely:
- Land Cruiser
- Camry
- Prado
- Fortuner
- Avanza
- Terios.
(the above list is copied from Indus Motor's own website.)
Are these vehicles designed for Pakistani fuel? Are their suspensions specially designed for Pakistan?
How many people here actually go to a toyota or honda or suzuki dealership to get work done on a say 5 year old car ?? We mostly get it done from Mechanics in the market and use parts from Bilal Ganj/Sultan da Khoh etc.
Our local assemblers just charge hefty prices for Cars which nothing more than Tin Boxes on wheels with an engine. Now they are running scared coz they see their profits going down. Why cant they simply improve their standards ?? BTW does Indus Motors know that the cars they are calling unreliable are mostly Toyotas??
