What are the symptoms of cvt failure?

Loud noises as in grinding or whinning, cvt slipping, rpm increasing but no power to the wheels. A failing cvt will heats up which in turn heats up the entire system. In such cases engine failure occurs with the transmission.
Trust me your cvt is fine, the more you fiddle the worse you will get from it. Change oil according to the interval and forget about it.
Kaabli cvt costs well over 300k now, and new is above a million now.

Aoa, need some advice, i have a yaris cvt 1.3. I recently had a bit of a mishap where a rock on a village road hit the bottom of the cvt pan and cracked it. I immediately shut off the car and towed it to a nearby workshop (dealership is not available in my area and it was a bit of an emergency as I stranded while travelling home with family). Pan was welded and leak tested. Got toyota genuine cvt fe 4L tin from market. Since I didn't know how much fluid had leaked so didn't know the quantity to fill back in but had an idea that around 3.8-4L goes in if you takeoff the pan, so poured around 3.8. Also, mechanic did not have a lift so couldn't check level. Car drives ok with no shifting issues. Should I still take it to the dealer to check the level? Also I've driven around 400km, so should I be worried about damaging my cvt by over/underfillng since it drives fine?

Best would be to tale it to a known workshop or Dealership and get it inspected. Better safe then sorry

Yaris also have k313 cvt transmission as far I know.

You cannot check oil level if you drive it and take it to anywhere. Oil level can only be checked when your car is cold, and in today's weather you will have time period of 2 minutes to check oil level after setting up techstream.

Now the easier way. Open drain nut, and filler tube. Measure this quantity. It should be between 1.8-2.2L. if it's more or less then you know what to do.

Update: I took the car today to a local oil change shop. They had lifts which were level. I parked the car there on the morning to cool down and told them I would come back after 4 hours. When I came back, I connected pins 4 and 13 on the cars DLC3 port and started it then did the rapid shift from D-N-D-N. D light came on solid after 2 minutes. (Weather was cool today around 23C) Told the mechanic to open the overflow nut. No fluid came out. So I stopped the car and poured around 0.75L more fluid. After starting again and repeating the calibration step, opened the nut, around 100-150ml fluid came out until it slowed to a trickle. Closed back up and was done in 20 minutes. (As ambient temp was cool today so D light stayed on during the time excess fluid was drained, around 2 minutes). Car drives good alhamdulillah. Satisfied now that the level is correct.

PS: Yaris CVT code is k411-b as per the plate in the car trunk.

Guys,

It is very frustrating that my car jerks very badly at around 20kmph speed when driving with light foot/low rpm.
In traffic it is causing frustration.
The drive at high rpm and high speed is fine, no issues.
Another thing i noticed is that when car is in cold start and is driven when cold, there is no jerk whatsoever.
But as the temperature gauge comes to normal, the jerks starts at 15-20kmph.
Please guide me what do i do?

This is normal for grande. Do nothing and drive it as it is. I also have a 2017 grande and in my circle there are many grandes and all of them have this jerk. Just keep on driving you will get used to it

Rpm remains higher when car is cold that's why you don't feel that on cold. Jerks won't come on a harder foot, it will only come on a light foot.
It's the cvt that's switching from lower ratios to higher ratios in order to save petrol.
Just to give you an example it's like you were driving on 3rd gear at 40km/h but you want to save petrol so you switched into 5th gear.

For your satisfaction get cvt oil pressure calibration from dealership, if the task complete on the scanner then your cvt is 100% fine.

I would urge everyone not to fiddle with this transmission as it can go bad within seconds and you won't be able to find a good transmission in working order. Slight jerks in k313 cvt are normal, humongous jerks that jolts entire car are abnormal.

just bought a grande 2019 with 70k kms on it. when i put it in reverse and step on the pedal immediately there is a slight jerk. but the issue is not reproduced if i wait for a second or two. is it normal or is there any problem with my transmission?
I drove it to Islamabad yesterday and got 14.7 Km per litre out of it on motorway with cruise at 110 and 125, 5 occupants and trunk full of luggage..
As a precaution I have already changed my CVT transmission fluid, but the issue remains. Although the shifting is effortless other than that

Never faced this reverse jerk thing.
However slight jerks sometimes occur.
I drove it on motorway many times at 120 using cruise.
I got 16+ average every time.
Sold my car recently.

I got 2022 grande and and also face same experience of jerk at 20kph and literally its really frustrating in slow traffic. I would have never bought this if i would have known this so called petrol saving feature.

I would suggest you a hack which i do in slow traffic, is to shift to Manual
