as mentioned by @qwertypoiu it is due to electronic throttle. The driver has to adjust a bit to overcome this behavior. And also its sensitivity a little bit higher than the cars with mechanical throttle. Even if you push the accelerator a little bit, it shoots to 2k rpm.

Similar problem in my 2010 model gli too.RPM drops to around 500 when depressing the clutch.This usually happens when downshifting gears to reduce speed.The car shivers a bit then the rpm raises up again.Its very annoying since it gives the feeling that the car will stall.Moreover the car has a small battery,considering the electrical features it has,which causes an extra load on engine to charge up the battery whenever more amps are needed.
Pathetic car as far as my experience is concerned.Not smooth at all specially in traffic hours when the break and gears have to be shiftted repeatedly
Moreover front doors are very noisy when the road is bit rough.

I totally agree with you hassanj ... due to this the drive is completely ruined and it really becomes a nuisance in traffic hours .. really frustrating ..

seems like most of the cowrolla owners including me are experiencing this same problem ....I showed my cow to toyota showroom in hyderabad and guess what the ****** bag (mechanic) tells me that theyl open the fuel tank and like clean it up as i got some fuel with kachra in it which was pointlesss :mad: as i was facing this problem since a long time after alota refuels and the vibrations intensity kept increasing slowly,so i ended up showing it to toyota eastern motors they just tuned my ride with computer software and brought the car and showed me some handheld device connected to its ecu port and the vibration part was solved but unluckily after few months its coming back again seems ill have to get it checked again which is annoying coz im in hyderabd...but still for all those who are in karachi can get their cars tuned up from authorized dealers coz thats all what your cars need..And for hyderabad people stay away from Toyota hyderabad motors coz they dunno SH#T...

this might create a difference....cuz i have noticed that every time any electrical switch is operated (even defogger is turned on) the RPM momentarily fluctuates by at least 50+ and the car shudders for a while ...I was also wondering on the same lines....either the battery is too small or the earthing is not up to the mark....

secondly i have started to pour Hi-octane....it did create a remarkable difference in the ride quality....

To my experience of RPM drop with 2010 Toyota Corolla the problem is with the vaccum pipes which play major role with the electronic throttle. Am not sure if all of you are in same area, but Toyota Southern have fixed such problems by -

1. Changing the battery from 55AMP to 75 AMP
2. Changing 5 vaccum pipes which run between anywhere to no where
3. Adjusting the mixture & ignition timing through the ECU - the Toyota Dignostic computer.

They do not do the adjustment stuff on CNG vehicles.

If they are cureing the problem why is Toyota Indus rolling out the cars like that ?
secondly if the battery is changed then is the change reflected in the car which are being manufactured/not sold yet ?

If its all done then where isnt there a recall for it?

I believe its not happening in all the cars, some batch specifics have the problem. yes battery is changed from 45AH to 55 AH and to 65AH in 1600 engines.

am not sure what is toyota policy in case of rectifying a 'seeding fault'.

Recall in Pakistan ?? wow dream on they never do such stuff here. in year 2000 (am unable to locate the thread reported with news paper clip here) a brand new un registered toyota corolla failed to deploy air bags and grand son of mir hazar khan bijarani (then senator or inhouse federal minister) died in a head-on collision in Islamabad, family filed a suit over Indus Motors for Rs. 200 Million, which was settled out of court in shape of 2 parados & 1 Cygnus. Plus free replacment of a new corolla.

I have the same in xli.Alhamdulilla i am enjoying a lot on CNG and ptrol as well.
i have done 22000 kms this is still fit and no problem at all.

Tell me how much you have diven.i hope you have washed your engine many times.therefore you are faacing the mentioned problems.

My bro Has corolla gli 2009 .It has same problem but its not a problem its due to electronic sensors placed in the car especially electronic throttle.You will get used to it.

Due to electronic throttle, when the car starts moving and RPM is not enough then it tends to drop. But once the car is moving it should not drop when brakes are applied with clutch depressed.

I today tested my GLi for this problem and I came to conclusion that when the car is moving and brakes are applied with clutch depressed then RPM drops to around 600 rather a little below and then comes back to original position i.e. around 800 RPM. This behavior is more evident when the headlights are switched on. The problem can be due to smaller battery.

I think the RPM should not drop below its normal position in any case.

Due to electronic throttle, when the car starts moving and RPM is not enough then it tends to drop. But once the car is moving it should not drop when brakes are applied with clutch depressed.

but without clutch it remain steady even if u depress the brake padel.
IMO its not a prob and u ll not notice it unless u stick ur eyes on the rpm meter rather the road ahead bcoz the engine vibration due to drop is negligible and rpm raise to its orig idle posn within no time.

What I noticed today is:

If the RPM is more than 4K. and you press clutch before applying brakes then the RPM comes to its normal position slowly and does not drops. But if you apply brakes without depressing clutch and when the car is slow enough and you need to shift to lower gear, you press clutch and RPM drops below normal position (in this case when you press clutch, RPM is usually below 2K).

During day time driving it is negligible but during night time driving when headlights, fog lights, defogger etc are switched ON then this problem is more evident and RPM stays below normal position longer. Today I tested this during day time with headlights ON, combination of headlights + fog lights, headlights only on high beam, fog lights only, all lights + AC ON etc. and the drop issue was there when any one of the lights was on.

So I think the problem is due to smaller battery. I will contact Toyota Dealership for this and let's see what they say.
