I was looking for a 4 to 5 years old Prado 2.7 TX-L for a few weeks. Most of them were around 25 million and some near 30 million. I even offered one guy 25 million cash for a 24,000 km driven TX-L, but he won't come down from 26.5 million. And on top of that I will have to pay around 1.2 million for registration.
There were a few things about Prado that were bugging me. Prado 2.7 petrol is very underpowered, it feels sluggish to drive. No navigation, no android auto, can't use cruise control above 110 km/h, so adaptive cruise control (radar) also becomes useless on most motorways. And, no matter how good the condition, it still looked old, especially the interior, and it should, 5 years is a long time. Spending 28 million keeping those things in mind didn't make sense to me. Apart from that Prado is very comfortable to drive and sit in.
After thinking long and hard, I finally decided to compromise on comfort and bought Legender. Fortunately for me, car market is very bad at this time, so I got a 100,000 rs discount from invoice price on ready stock. The whole transaction was done in one hour and I was back home with the car. I paid 16 million including withholding tax, registration and insurance.
First impressions: After driving for about 50 km, these are my first impressions: The lack of comfort as compared to Prado is apparent. Somehow small potholes are felt more than large ones. Some people say the suspension gets softer after some time. Lets see! The engine performance is very good. Its acceleration is even faster than my old 3.4 TZ Prado. The handling is better than Prado, I think due to less body roll. Android auto is working flawlessly, very smooth. I do everything with voice commands like using navigation, making phone calls, sending whatsapp messages, etc.
I haven't tested yet, but Legender should be better off-road capable than Prado due to much better performance of 1GD engine: Prado 2.7 petrol produces 163 hp and 246 Nm torque, while Legender 2.8 diesel produces 201 hp and 500 Nm torque. Both vehicles have almost same curb weight 2100 kg Legender vs 2090 kg Prado. The power to weight ratio is much better in Legender. This is important to me as I do like to go off-road, drove my 3.4 Prado 120 to many off-road tracks up north, including deosai plains, with car fully loaded.
Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase. But will have to do some cushion shopping for my back
