I m reading here people are normally getting 23-25km/l average in aqua with ac but i get 16-18km/l. I drive normally with light foot. I did all the maintenance recently as well but after maintenance i got 23 km/l for while but again it dropped to 18. Can anyone plz tell the reason behind it?

Yeah the realistic average is about 22-25 km/L. In your case:
1 What is the viscosity of engine Oil which you are using ? (0w-20, 0w-30, 5w-30 etc.)
2 Tyres size and tyre pressure?
3 Pouring Petrol of what grade (RON 92, 95 or 97) ?
4 What about the condition of your hybrid battery? Is it storing enough charge to let the engine convert to EV mode when driving at slow speeds and when coasting?
5 Condition of Air filter ?

Inf act I am having the same sort of average around 19- 20 at max in city with AC always on. Never went above 20. My vehicle is always up to date with maintenance. Ur answers in order are :

• I was using ZIC 0 - 30 for past two intervals . Yesterday only I switched to liqui moly 0 - 20 being most premium oil available but havent checked the difference yet. Changing intervals : 6000 kms approx

• 185 - 65 - 15 30 PSI all four

• RON 97 from Shell . Tried PSO also but their fuel doesnt seem to be of that high quality. Tried mix combo also, no effect. On plain RON 92 , my engine gives knocking. Tried it several times

• Hybrid battery all gud

• Air filter always changed with oil change. after 3000 kms, , its dust is cleaned with air pressure. (Just changed yesterday with oil changed as usual)

Original iridium plugs were changed about 8000 kms ago so shouldn't be an issue for next 40k kms at least.

But after all that, I should have got the average of 22 - 24 kms atleast

Same Is my case
While running in Karachi City in day time the Average is about 18~19 km/l. Using Hi Octane giving me an average of PKR-5/Km

The Answers of your Queries are

1. Oil - 0W-20 (Only 4000 Km run till yet)

2.a. Tyre - 175/65R15
2.b. Tyre Pressure - 33 Front 31 Rear

2. car do convert on EV and Hybrid battery do charge. In Malir Cantt Area the Speed restriction is of 45Km/h, so mostly have to be light foot in any case. Is there any other way to check the battery??

3. Air Filter lastly was cleaned with air pressure on 20th March 2018 (Only 600 Km run till then). Planning to change with Oil after 6000~6500 Km running.

My car was giving 22~23 Km/l in Jan and Feb 2018 (PKR-4.2/Km), but in March and in April this value has decreased to 18~19 Km/l.

1. I just changed oil from 10w 40 to 0w 20.
2. Tires size and pressure is according to the manual
3. Used to pour normal petrol but last time i poured hi octane
4. Hybrid battery working absolutely fine and i changed air filter yesterday.

I am also getting max around 18-21 km/L in current Karachi weather(summer weather). Your car seems to be in decent nick as you are mentioning. Following is the reply in order :
1 This is best OW-20 oil you are using. You will observe the difference soon! Which oil filter did you opt for ? Toyota Thai or Toyota Original ?
2 You have increased the overall diameter by over 2 percent by installing 185-65-r15 tires. So expect your fuel economy to increase. There is simple rule that as the wheel gets larger in diameter, the size of the tire’s sidewall must shrink to maintain the tire’s overall diameter.185-60-r15 tire would have been ideal but then again the issue of scraping speed bumps will remain.
3 Try to fill from HASCOL with a 60-40 premium to high octane ratio. Stick to Shell if you are satisfied with the performance.

Main factor is your tyre size. Have you also installed rims ? if yes what is the rim width , rim offset and rim weight ?

Engine oil is perfect. Does your hybrid battery discharge and charge rapidly? If yes this is a sign that your hybrid battery is weakening as it is not able hold as much charge as before. Remember that hybrid battery stores charge well when it is cool. In our hot climate the claimed fuel economy of 37 km/L is impractical. I usually replace air filters depending upon the current condition of it. Not necessarily on oil changes. Almost similar case with me. In winters i was getting 24-26 km/L but since March i am getting 18-21 km/lL, although my driving style is medium to hard foot.

Why you were using 10w 40 in a hybrid in the first place? But better late than never. You will notice the difference soon with the new correct engine oil. Try 60-40 mixture of normal and high octane from HASCOL pump. What is your driving style ? Do you have a harsh , normal or light pedal?

1. I use Thai Filter from Toyota as original one is quite expensive
   2.Rim pic attached . It came pre installed from the buyer i purchased vehicle from. Seems fine as- as per manual, 6.5 is supported on 17 inch tyre so same weight on a 15 inch should be more fuel efficient and must be lighter than a 17 inch profile altogether ( rim + tyre both)

However, he had installed 195 65 15 tyres on it which i downsized to 185 65 15 being perfect available size of it in terms of roads and humps. It was giving 16 - 17 before that, immediately came to around 19 after tyre changed.

175 65 15 is the ideal size as per manual but no so ideal for karachi roads. Also not commonly available as it only comes pre installed with new City and no where else it is used

Thanks for the input. Please elaborate Hybrid Battery weakening condition. How much time or Km should it take to charge and how long should it last on engine start or running Km.
How can I check the battery condition if it is OK or not.
Any specific Mechanic in Karachi to show to??

My car is 74300 km driven at the moment. Is there is need to change its transmission oil, spark plug, fuel injectors?

Transmission oil and Spark Plug 101% yes if history of last change is unknown.

It would be too risky to run with both these old materials to unknown last change milage

Its all right,keep using Thai filter as original one costs in the range (1900-2200 rs) Masha Allah rims look Good. Yeah after Dowsizing your fuel consumption should have decreased. Those rims probably weigh somewhere around 6.5-7 kg(one rim). I still have stock 175/65/R15(Goodyear efficient grip Eco) Tyres with OEM stock rims 15×5.5 ET 45. I will be soon changing to some decent looking original (not really original though but about 1st copy) Toyota rim with stock Tyres as those are still in good condition and I know by selling them I will not get me much money and I don't have much concern regarding scraping as I am the only one in the car most of the times. It only scrapes if there are 3 people in total (1 driver and 2 passenger).
