You are wrong brother,
As axio fielder and all other 1.5 litres toyota hav different engine than prius. They have 1NZ-FE engines, which produces 107 hp, while prius has 1NZ-FXE engine which only produces 76 hp. And thats, my brother, is hell of a difference, it uses atkinson cycle simulation and compression ratio is also different.

Actually people who are favoring hybrids are those people who are importing them for business, they want this car to be proved as intelligent choice, and make more and more people to buy this car. Actually buying this car as used is a foolish-man's job.

ofcourse its different from internally but wat i meant its uses the same oil filter, air filter n other parts r same as axio/premio 1500cc engine....i know the compression of 1nz-fxe is 13.0 non vvti while 1nzfe is vvti with 10.5 compression...bore n stroke r same

I lived in Pakistan, drove a very economical diesel car, and a small motorcycle too - Yam RX115 - but still I did not go ahead and call these cars luxury. Thats cartoonish

Brother, my question is, how many corollas (Pak model) go for the service at Toyota dealers? There is no maintenance schedule or history on any used corolla? I have not seen any. Since, you mentioned Vitz example, did you ever go the Toyota for service of you car? Did you buy any warranty services from them? I guess not. Here's my personal comparison study for the two cars, Altis and Prius.

You can save more than Rs.150,000 in five years. I drive more than 2000km/month and my Altis 1800cc avg is 10.km/L (that is city/highway mix). For calculation purposes I assume my monthly drive 2000km.

Comparison with Altis 1800cc ; avg. 10km/L.
2000km / 10 = 200 Liters
200 Liters x Rs. 105 = Rs. 21000 monthly spending. (assume Petrol price remains constant at Rs. 105)
21000 x 12months = Rs. 252,000 Annual fuel costs.

My Prius Average is 20.6km/L within City. Highway its 26.7km/L and Mix Use is about 23.3km/L. For calculation purposes I will use 20km/L city average fuel for Prius (instead of mix use average).
2000km / 20 = 100 Liters
100 Liters x Rs. 105 = Rs. 10500 monthly spending. (assume Petrol price remains constant at Rs. 105)
10500 x 12months = Rs. 126,000 Annual fuel costs.

Annual Savings: 252,000 - 126,000 = Rs. 126,000 in fuel costs.

Since, oil and filter change is required for both models. But I will add it to Prius costs. Assume per oil change, filters costs Rs. 5000 x 4 times/year = Rs. 20000 annually. Even then your net savings are 126,000 - 20,000 = 106,000 annual savings. For next 5 years, your savings will be 106,000 x 5 = Rs. 530,000. So, if you bought Prius for 18lacs then you can resell it for atleast 15lacs after 5 years. Keeping in mind that vehicle prices in Pakistan has gone up more than 100% in last 4-5 years. You still in the savings side.

Brother, there is not even a single incident that I am aware of, when someone ever needed to replace the Hybrid battery (since 1997 first launch). There is vehicle in USA having 471,000 miles = 752,000km and the battery still charges very well and fuel average is excellent. So, If I drive 24,000 km annually then it takes more than 30 years to reach the 752,000 km mark.

As per your comments, let us assume a battery replacement after next five years. At present it costs about US$2500 x 95 = 237,500 for a Hybrid battery from Toyota. You can buy a re-build battery for about US$1100 x 95 = 104,500 with warranty. For calculation purposes we assume battery costs 250000 + assume Rs. 150,000 in duties and other fees = Total: 250000+150,000 = 400,000.

5 Years fuel savings Rs. 530,000-400,000 = Rs. 130,000 -

You can even search the wikipedia for Prius. You will find a research details given there. I hope that helps.

Here are my 2 cents on Prius.

1 - The cars are sold as new in Japan. They run well and under company maintenance for 5 years.
2 - They get imported to Pakistan. The cars has average battery at this time. It can last another 5 years or so. But car will be without any company maintenance. Road side workshops will ruin a lot of things.
3 - After using car for another 5 years in Pakistan - battery will be in bad shape. It won't charge. You will want to sell it. Even if you have all other spare parts available, the battery will still cost you around 250,000 to 300,000.

Now my question is, you bought a car for 18 lac. You used it for five years with luxury. Lets say you save around 150,000 in fuel costs over five years. Do you think you will still get 15lac for your used Prius, with no company maintenance of last 5 years and that has a dead battery. I think NO. We can't compare this car with Vitz/other JDMs. Because mechanics here can still repair those cars and they will not need a new battery after a use of 10 years.

The car is a luxury and a great choice for those who can afford to loose some money. But a common man in Pakistan, where people mostly look towards their profit and loss, this car has very bleak future.

The HSD is not only just the battery, there are a few other important bits that make it work - and those bits are not junkyard parts and are neither cheap. And your data of corollas not going to dealership service in Pakistan is correct - and that car can be serviced by anyone who has serviced any sort of car, Its not the same case with Prius.

As Pakistanis roll - if the costs will become too high to service, they will proceed to stuff eskalai engines and even 2C diesels in them - just like every other car in Pakistan faced.

@ovais Salam. Prius 2007 gives around 21 km a liter , it depends on how you drive but with low price of CNG now a days it puts less burden on your pocket compared to PRIUS

They are using prius as tissue papers, and we are soooooo happy in using there used tissue papers( after drying them) Hope you get my point. Now whats the point, with CNG going cheap, our cars are running cheaper than hybrid.... Hahahaha. Now buy a used Mercedez and fit a CNG inside. Thats a luxury, not the prius....lols

Last weekend had a chance to travel around in a friends Prius and I must say it's an impressive car. quiet and comfortable. The big down side however is the road clearance. We were four in the car and it was hitting every speed breaker. He told me that there are local made springs available for the rear suspension which increase the ground clearance. But I am not sure how good those spring will be in terms of quality.

There's a vehicle in USA that has more than 450,000 miles that is about 752,000km on it. Still it is running on original engine and hybrid battery.

You may also want to search wikipedia.org for Toyota Prius. You will find a test report published by a Magzine. They tested a brand new Prius and a ten year old model with 200,000 miles = 320,000km on it. Both cars came with same results. Engine & battery were same as the new. Only difference was a drop in fuel efficiency by 0.2miles - well that is negligible. Brand new & 10 year old model.

As far CNG is concerned, I believe it kills the engine. You may have the saving but your car life depreciates rather quickly. Then you have to change Engine oil more frequently than a car running on petrol.
