Toyota Starlet KP60 engine swap

Salam, I have a 84 starlet with 2k engine. shit runs great but the fuel average is sub par. on its orginal carb. it gave me a max 7kmpl ,
after fuel prices hit the fan, i replaced the carb with the mehran's. now i am getting max 9kmpl but at a very poor pick performance.

now what i really desire is an average of atleast 12kmpl with AC, if that means an engine swap then i want your suggestions for what are my options.
i aspire to make it an economical road trip machine.

also someone told me a Hijet 660 Rwd will fit easily and give a good average.

The 4AFE / 5AFE should be bolt on. I personally know that 5AFE gives a pretty good average, even more so since Starlet is a lightweight.

Don't install any engine that requires mounting alterations.

It will not be bolt on. Both engines available in scrap yard came in fwd configuration. Rotating the engine cause other issues like distributor touching the firewall.
Best is to swap a same family K series engine in it.

Ah yes, KP70 onwards were front wheel.

7K is an EFI engine (it also has a carb variant) if you can locate in yards close by. rebuilt it and the swap is bolt-on without any changes in engine bay or to transmission. fuel economy with light weight KP hatch-body will be 15+km/ltr

for the time being put the original carb back, get some tuning and cleaning done. dont waste the current engine and dont ruin ur car.
