Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it even though ur a family man :P. If as you mentioned to leave the original automatic transmission oil, in my case doesnt it have to be replaced as my car has crossed about 67000 km?

Hi!, I have a 2001 Vitz, Auto Trans, And It is going very well with no problems at all but i hate one thing about it, It is hard to Maintain 120kph on Motorway, Is it the same case will all vitz or just some problem with mine. With O/D on, It reaches 130 on down slope, but when the car is climbing up, the the speed reduces to something like 90 or 100. depending on the Slope.

Toyota use Toyota brand auto trans fluid and its good. As per toyota rawal motors auto trans and power steering fluid shud be replaced every 50k km.

your car on CNG or petrol.. not sure about CNG..but i have heard its hard to go over 120 on CNG but on petrol it should hit 170+ easily as i have seen meters of few vitz owners firing upto 170+

Guys,

I am going to change rims and tyres for my vitz. At present 13/65/155 are installed? please suggest that should i go for 13/70/175 or 14/65/175?

and what is recommended rims size for vitz.

i hve 175/65/R14 in my yaris...planing to upgrade to 15...let see what happpend..also my yaris is hitting 140+ on CNG as it is manual transmission..

1. does the tyre touch the inner body or any other part?
2. do you get a smooth ride on bumpy roads? i mean what about broken roads outside the city?
3. have you raised the car from its original settings?
4. does it have any effect on the axles or wheel bearings?

with AC in my vitz 2004 on petrol, i have gone to 156 on super highway. i think it should go upto 165 on motorway. check your plugs and air filter

Only use Toyota's T-IV for vitz transmission (not T-II which is used for corollas here). Btw, atf should be changed after like 40k kms or if there's something wrong in the fluid. If your atf is looking fine, then better change when u do 80k. Most probably it's been changed at 40k!

According to my experience, no need to use Hi Octane or mixture in vitz.

And I'm using ZIC A (not A+) - pretty satisfied by it. The fuel consumption has also decreased a bit. If the car was new brand, I might have used a more expensive oil - but as they say, once an engine is used to a particular oil... don't change it to something drastically different!

Dude, this is a common issue. Don't worry much. The speed ratios of auto trans are not the same as compared to a manual transmission (O/D is almost like the 5th gear in manual transmission). What I did notice was that after getting a new oil (Zic A) and filter, this issue was much reduced - so car was easily hitting 140 on level roads. And yes, fuel (cng or petrol) matters a lot at high speeds. My top so far has been almost 130 (on cng, after crossing 120 with o/d off) and 162 (on petrol) - then I stopped trying more!

Regarding tyres and wheels... I am with @storm on this. Manufacturer's recommended sizes are generally best for all purposes - unless u really know what you're doing. Low profiles will definitely be less comfy. And overall bigger sizes will definitely result in slower pick. Plus, the obvious problem of getting incorrect mileage and speed! And the more you load up your car (e.g. 4 or 5 ppl) u'll feel like towing a truck!

Thanks for the informative reply. Just a few qs.

1. Since I dont know if the atf has been changed at 40k, how do I check if its ok and doesnt need to be replaced as my car has done 68k?

2. I will use Zic from now onwards but since I recently changed the oil and used the Shell (Yellow can) is that ok for now as the engine oil looked like it needed to be changed? Besides, how do I know which oil my engine is used as u said not to change to anything drastic?

I would apprecaite if you can clear up these questions for me. Thanks once again.

@amoizp: Dude, I also got something to ask you!

What's this O/D? There is a lot of confusion about O/D (overdrive). I believe I was told that by switching your car to O/D you get more acceleration (because the car shifts to one lower gear) and thus your car runs faster but uses more fuel.

On the other hand on some other forum, I read that it's like a fourth gear. By switching on the O/D you tell the car to switch to 4th gear when you hit a certain speed and that can result in better fuel economy.

I am so damn confused bhaiyon! I need some info on this! :s

Ur second point is wat I believe is the correct answer. I think when going up/down slopes etc u can switch off O/D otherwise let it remain on for fuel economy.

Over drive is just a way to inject more fuel via your carburetor into your engine. That and then more intake of air (oxygen) this in turn will have a bigger & hotter spark in your engine thus producing more energy which gives your car a boost which in turn drives it faster.

Simply put, if you turn the OverDrive on, you use more fuel but get better acceleration. You might remember I demonstrated this to you and Sabs while we were coming back from that BBQ place next to the DHA golf club.

Ok Let us make it simple: When you are in the OD mode, i.e. when the O/D is ON... what you get is a smoother ride at high speeds, in other words your car produces more output/power than the input. To understand the concept, imagine a heavy coin you roll and a light coin you roll on the floor with same speeds, which will go farther? The heavier one ofcourse, reason is the torque. The same happens here, your car is par with the intial frictions, so it takes lesser power for it to maitain higher speed. and its more fuel effieint. But when you need an urgent acceleration, it might lessen that a little bit. For that you turn it off for some time and turn it on again.
But you will notice the difference only at higher speeds, the reason as I discussed earlier is torque.
I am really not sure if you understood it well or even the previous understanding is gone as well Maybe I am not able to make you understand, and in that case, other senior members... helpppppppppppppppppppppp please

Have u noticed the blue light on the dashboard when you switch on your ignition? It usually goes off after a couple of minutes. Do u have to wait for it to go off before driving? Never had this on previous cars so I was just wondering.
