If you want manual get base variant GLI in manual. Ativ 1.3 in manual will be very less. People prefer auto transmission in higher variants.

Between 1.3 auto & manual, 1.3MT will be faster & will return certainly more (perhaps insignificant) mileage.

Based on my experience of test drive of 1.3-AT, it's slightly slower compared to 1.3-MT but it's not the reason. That is why, I wasn't impressed with 1.3-AT but 1.3-MT feels fast enough.

When it comes to Pakistan Auto Industry, the logic fails, sad but true.
Let me know if I should pictures of the car that my friend got a delivery of. I'll get delivery in August so will share details then.

By the way, here's Yaris 1.3MT that a friend got that I took for a test drive. I've booked Ativ so will detailed review in August once I'll take a delivery.

Trend is changing, More and more Urban customer is going toward auto. So resale may also depend on the context and area. So if you are from one of the Major 10 cities you are fine with auto, actually used auto will be priced higher in these cities. But in smaller cities and rural areas, auto will have less attraction and this will continue for few more years until the choice of manual will start to vanish.

All in all I don't think you can go wrong with resale while selecting auto any more you can always try to sell it in one of major city.

Brother, i think that you are talking about the era when we had Cuore CX and Cuore CX Auto , in that time period, manual was considered better being 850CC, but since last many years , Auto resale was always higher than Manual either its Honda City 1.3L or 1.5L Prosmatic or Honda Civic (till last generation it also had Manual option as well), Even corolla GLI 1.3 Auto, 1.8L Criusetronic or Grande, in every category, resale of automatic car (no matter its under power or not) is/will always higher than manual. Exactly, its not that one car is fast and other is not. Its all about feel, auto specially CVT lag give you the impression of it being slow specially coming from a manual it takes time to adjust to the feel of auto. Manual response on lower gears is instantaneous. But that split second delay in auto makes you feel that car doesn't want to go fast and is not responding in sync with you push on pedal. This make a significant difference in impression as you feel the manual car is reaching higher speed quickly and you have better control of shifting early or shifting late. I think there is not even a full second difference in 0-100 of both. That is too bcoz you can't launch an auto car as optimally as you can launch a manual one what I heard (never tried it, so take it as a theory or whatever you like).

specaiily in today date if i plan to keep the car for next 7 years , then i should consider the expected resale value after 7 years. Honestly i expect that after few years, car manufacturers will stop making MT versions except some base version XLI type.

If you like manual version, buy manual version. Buy car for yourself, not for the next customer who'll buy it from you.

Currently price difference between ATIV 1.3 manual and CVT is PKR 150,000/-. It's not like manual cars are going to stop selling as many people still prefer buying a manual version as it's one less component that can be wrong with the used car. CVT version will have higher selling price as used compared to manual version, but it may very well be close to the price difference that you'll be paying now yourself for buying CVT version.

I'm also planning on buying manual version of Ativ 1.3. I was thinking about getting 1.3 GLI as I don't think the additions from GLI to ATIV are worth the price difference (particularly when difference in price of CVT GLI and ATIV is Rs.30,000/- lower than price difference in manual versions ). But after visiting the showroom and inspecting both versions, I feel like a concerted effort was made by Toyota to make the GLI look uglier than ATIV.

I'm going for manual version because
- I like driving manual version. I feel more in control
- It's cheaper
- It'll have better fuel economy (based on how it's driven)
- It'll have better performance (when required)
- Manual version will be better for tours to northern areas

Most likely I'll also keep this car for several years like you. Why worry about what's gonna be the resale price after 7 to 10 years? Nobody can predict that long into the future. All our petrol driven car may be worthless by that time due to electrical cars

Couldn't agree more. 100% spot on.
However, when I say my personal experience differs. I've sold my GLi-MT in 2 days in Islamabad. My neighbor (in same street) sold his GLi-Auto in 17 days in March, 2020. Both cars, same year, same white color, pristine-conditioned, his demand was 100K higher than mine (due to 20K higher mileage than mine). The 2+ weeks delay might be attributed to GLi being 4-gear AT. Not sure.

I personally love 7-speedCVTi. MT will surely phased-out, especially when Euro-5 fuel hits local market & car assemblers upgrade their engine-tech for sure. Also, a logical mind will go for CVTi for the ease it offers but like I said, such logic fails in Pakistan.

For me, like I've said earlier, it's temporary as I'll go for corolla as soon as she's have new clothes.

Resale shouldn't be a big thing especially when sold in first 3 years.

To me, it's the feel that matters. We can't possibly race with such utilitarian engines tuned for mileage and not performance but that's just me.

Bro auto today is probably more reliable than manual. Or as good as manual if there's a good manual transmission driver.

So in the end it's your choice.

For occasional drives manual is ok but with traffic conditions deteriorating every day manual will become difficult.
I love manual and still miss my Xli. Auto takes some time to get used to but CVT can give averages easy better than conventional auto and in general case even better than manual.
So if you plan to keep it for 7 years CVT is the way to go. As the switch has already started and in 7 years it will only grow more.
This is an taking because same was the case in UAE. Manual used to sell but with traffic and improvement in auto people preference shifted. My father had hard time selling his car as people were looking at auto. I see the same shift here

That's plain wrong. That was maybe the case in late 80s. But, all major 4x4 offroaders are coming with auto since mid 90s, like Land Cruisers, Prados, Merc etc.

Auto is actually better for mountains, provided the engine is not severely underpowered. Just drive in S and it's amazing. Same for downhill, drive in B or S.

You can't do anything wrong with auto transmission, even if you're a bad driver. With manual more chances of people messing things up, burning clutch plates, etc.

Auto is fool-proof in most of the cases.

That was also my thought process when selecting 1.3-Ativ-MT. I like AT more but being practical especially for touring northern areas, MT makes more sense considering it's 1.3.

1.5 might make more sense for auto but delivery times on it was insane at the time when I booked it.

You can't beat the feel of putting the car in 2nd gear when 70 km speed for adrenaline rush to accelerate or putting it in 3rd gear at 110 on motorways for 1.3.

I extremely rarely do it but when I do it, it's fun. But that's just me.

How many of those 4x4 offroaders have less than 100hp engines?

On normal mountain roads, there isn't too much of a difference and both transmission types work fine. But there are quite a few places where transmission types do matter. I have personally seen a Toyota SUV crashing into rocks to stop due to brake failures while descending from Shogran. When asked the driver complained about auto transmission requiring more frequent usage of brakes. My friend had a horrible time on the same descent in his 1800cc Prius. Even the lowest available gear position was too much for that steep descent and he had to brake often which made the brakes overheat.

I had the experience of driving to Khunjrab pass on two consecutive years from Babusar top side. First time, I was driving a manual 1.3 Honda City while next year I was driving 1.8 Prosmatec Honda Civic (both cars were same year models). I can safely say that for any next trip to that same location, I would always prefer the manual 1.3 City if given the choice between the same cars.

Judging the auto tranns based on Corolla GLI 1.3 or even City 1.3 is a ZIYADTI with auto. GLI is already a huge body for that engine and that 4 speed auto is ancient now. It will never be able to cope with challenging situation. Its good in city when you are gliding around in traffic from here to there but it will struggle at high speed or slopes. But by struggle I mean the feel you can still push it beyond motorway limit but feeling is another story. I think you won't say that for 1.8 or even Altis 1.6. Auto need power to weight ratio in good balance. In case of Yaris I think it must have that balance for sure in 1.5 but also at par in 1.3.

You are right. Power to weight ratio matters a lot 84hp engine in a car as big and heavy as GLI/XLI with 4 speed auto was a terrible combination.

1.3 Yaris won't be significantly worse than 1.5 variant. To be honest I'm a bit disappointed with 1.5 engine of Yaris. Honda City 1.3 and 1.5 variants have 20hp difference while Yaris 1.3 and 1.5 have only 8hp difference. Performance difference between 1.3 and 1.5 should've been greater.
