I also sold my cultus VXL (2000 km driven) in 2018, brand new for 13.5 lac, only out of such fears, today it's close to 20 lac now. Decision I regret.
So, I booked Yaris on June 16, and delivery is expected on Wednesday, next week.
Reality is: mainly only those people having negative thoughts about yaris that never even driven it (even though, you can test drive it and Indus will send the car to your doorstep). You shouldn't listen to them.
Others having negative views by comparing to Corolla - it's a invalid comparison as you'll be paying close to 4 lac more for similar (yet lacking) features. And if that is case, you can go for basic Civic too (by adding bit more)
If you're comparing Yaris with upcoming city, that means, you don't need a car today or in 2-3 months. If you can wait for 8-10 months for city, you very well can wait for 2 years too. After 1 year, there'll be sub-compact SUVs in the market & then you'll be comparing those with city/Corolla/yaris. In time, you'll be with your current car for 2-3 years. It's a never ending story. And then you should be mentally prepare to pay a lot more for same yaris/city/etc with double the delivery time of what is today. And in time, who knows, china might roll out their cheap & disposable cars, too, in here.
In 2014, my brother got delivery of Corolla & very same day, new shape launched but he was happy and then after a couple years, he sold that car in 1 lac profit. He actually bought the car for himself - not for investment. That's what I did.
Every car is a flop at launch in Pakistan. Wether be it Corolla, yaris, city, wagonR, even fortuner. Today, people are saying, altis 1.6 MT is a flop. But in 2+ years, those cars will be hot cake as new ones are getting expensive every passing year. This is going on past 50+ years.
Please take a test drive of yaris & then share your thoughts that what else is available with such features, today. That should answer your own questions & fears.
I bought yaris Ativ, MANUAL. People say, manual is a flop, too. I only smile on such comments. In 3-4 years, I'll sell this car at more than invoice price and will see what's available on that day, that'll be my choice. Who knows it might be city or an electric car.
Value your today, that's what life is all about.
My two cents.
Peace.
