Train AC Sleeper - Lahore To Karachi

I recently traveled from karachi to lahore in shalimir express. It leaves karachi at 7 pm and schedule time of arrival in lahore is 12 pm. It has those roomy compartments with built in washroom. Fare oneway is 6 thousand.
You should also check pakistan railways website, it has all the information regarding fares and timing you are looking for.

Quite sure shalimar leaves at 7 pm.
And shalimar group is running both the trains i.e. night coach and shalimar express.

That's an extremely bad news. The night coach must have wifi. If anyone could please tell them. Even the buses now have it. Why would they not have wifi??? Please tell them to install ASAP. Thanks

In this picture below.... is it a wooden door??? Is it safe to travel on Pakistani trains with wooden door compartments? I remember the the biggest drawback & point of concern while travelling through trains was 'security'... So is this really is a wooden door.... what about the security?

I have traveled many times from Lahore to Karachi on Business Express and it is quite a good experience every time.

Train journey is considered one of the safest way to travel. There is whole police team that travels with the train so nothing to worry.

And regarding WiFi, take your ptcl evo cloud device, it works like a charm during most of the journey.

Just exchange the timings with both names and you will be 100% correct Shalimar express leaves at 6 am.. while night coach leaves at 7 pm (thats why called night coach)

So get evo stick just to travel to KHI? Better use GPRS, isnt it? Why can railway authorities not install it? Alot to ask?

That police-travelling-with-train must be a new trend because if I recall correctly, we were not allowed to go out of our compartment or open door unless there was a ticket checker and my mom used to confirm that before opening the door. And she used to be especially careful and kind of horrified when the train would stop at some stations.... Rohri amongst some other stations. I think there were some 'bad stories', news of robberies, etc. That's still on my mind hence surprised to see a wooden door.

Hi tech it aint but I can't see any other reason why a wooden door should be considered any less secure so long as it locks from the inside.

Also, the best way to get first hand info on trains is to make a visit to cantt station at the appropriate train departure times to have a look/see of what the trains actually look like. And with any people mover, there are no guarantees on equipment as it all depends on availability. best, k.

To provide a small example on why it is less secure is because it can be smashed, broken with an iron rod / tools. On the contrary an iron door cannot be smashed, or broken with an iron rod.,,, And I mean to keep secure from robbers who get on the trains from stations. Atleast this is what we used to be most concerned about while travelling by trains.

Secondly, Book / pay for an "AC Sleeper" which is supposedly a luxury compartment (Or atleast it used to be in the past) but not knowing what broken & dirty box you would be travelling in... How royal!!! And if I should not expect any guarantees on what I would be finally travelling on, what good could it be to take the hassle of personally visiting the station at some specific timings only to watch what quality of compartments OTHERS are travelling on, not me? Doesnt sound very clever, does it? But thanks anyway, I guess Pakistani brains are incapable of thinking beyond a certain degree...

Picking up from your the last line of your reply...i.e. Pakistani brains are incapable of thinking beyond a certain degree, all it would have taken you to do is search the forums sections to get to the Aircraft/Trains section. Anyway, let me help you find it. Just follow this flow...Forums>Casual Forums>Aircrafts/Trains and voila!

Even people carriers don't guarantee the availability of a specific type of equipment such as a model of aircraft/train/bus so why should Pakistan Railways be any different? And if one buys a ticket for a specific train and specific class and if the equipment doesn't match it, you simply get a refund and look for other means.

When one is keen on gaining and understanding of what Pakistan Railways is offering these days then the best way to find out is to make the effort of visiting the station to see for oneself what one should expect when one buys a train ticket. If this doesn't sound like a clever idea then so be it.

Yes genius, wood burns if you set it alight and hence it is a fire hazard. Fire retardant treatments will give you a few extra minutes to get the f**k out of there but sooner or later it will burn. Would have expected your superior non-Pakistani brain to have figured that one out.

You clearly have alot more free time on your hands than anyone else here to type 3 long paras to respond to my 2 simple questions. Unlike you, I dont sit here on this forum only to find a chance to be heard / read so I dont have time to search forums & i'll keep it very specific. I have not seen any "people carrier" aircraft/bus/cars equipment given in such a rotten condition in the name of 'luxury' ( http://playit.pk/watch?v=R_-YbBNMgDo ) even in Pakistan. So your statement "so why should Pakistan railway be any different" is even more creepy than that AC Sleeper you see in the video. So if one doesnt want to travel on that horrific equipment, you're here suggesting them to "get a refund and look for other means." This is either an effort on your part to promote "other means" of travel or you directly belong to "pakistan railway" mafia to make such strong statements in their support.

Lastly, after looking at the current hideous trains & areas around the station, I would surely opt for "other means" than travelling by train. Thanks for you input. I dont have any more question. 1. You complained about there being no wifi on the trains and then asked the guy who told you to go ask Pakistan Railways to install it ASAP. Yes of course your majesty! Aur kuch?

2. Secondly, you asked whether it is a good idea to threaten railway employees to ensure that they place your royal backside in a new bogey. Wonderful suggestion! In fact why stop at trains? Please try this approach on Emirates next time and let us know the results.

3. Thirdly, you responded very rudely to a very simple (and reasonable) suggestion to visit Cantt station and in the process mocked "Pakistani brains", therefore offending the entire readership of this forum.

What is the fare of Night coach 2 berth cabin for per person from Khi to Lhr? does it has attached bath?

Forgot one thing.. Night coach express (under private sector, Shalimar Group) also have AC Sleeper and I think they have new coaches always. Their fare is more than Govt trains. You can visit them or give them a call and ask.

I'm not getting any respect on this forum? That valuable verdict... How could have I survived without it & the 'respect'.

1. If a bitter old grumpy abuser can't see humor in that, that's the fault of his own ineffective senses.

2. I was never made to travel on ancient, ghastly aircraft by Emirates or any other airlines including PIA upon booking "business class" and have not heard of any such mishaps from fellow Pakistanis where they booked business / first class but were made to fly on something as horrendous as this AC Sleeper of KhyberMail train 2/3 - PlayIt.pk Only PAK railway has that honor. If emirates decided you were worth treating just like your own PAK railway treats Pakistanis, blame & fix your own royal behind, not emirates. & dont beg others to get you a compensation.

3. I neither have time nor interest to take the hassle of going all the way to the station only to examine what quality of bogies other travelers are given by PAK railway whereas I cannot be certain what I would be given on the day of my own travel & told "take it or take refund".

4. Lastly, take your personal insults and abusive words back to your home & to people you grew up with. I am neither. And there is no shortage of robberies and robbers in Pakistan. Read a local news paper instead of american.

Furthermore, I remember how when once upon returning from KHI, the railway staff said two of us would have to travel on berths in different compartments despite the fact that the booking was made well in advance. He was expecting us to bribe him. It was only after threat of reaching out to his seniors & actually seeing his senior to complain that we were then not only given berths in the same compartment but also given a VIP treatment. So, that is how things get done in Pak railway. They asked for it.
