Canopies of fighter aircraft like F-16 are made of 2 inch polycarbonate. Its a strong material but is susceptible to degradation when exposed to high temperatures, sunlight and sharp impacs. Anyhow this is an interesting development.

In the video the guy says its the same material used on space shuttles. I think it can withstand high temperatures because shuttles usually do when coming back into Earth's atmosphere...
