i dont reccomend shangla pass as its not safe to travel specially with family and road is also in terible shape last i heard....

so uy cannot travle by car...
i myself have traveled twice by this route b4 operation started

there is no family hotel at shangla top, rather u can get any hut at the top with help of army officials.

last year i visited shangla top with family and have to be back as i couldnt find any reliable hotel up there. the place is exciting and a must visit..... no problem for family day trip......

road upto shangla top and about a few km further ahead towards basham was the finest one.. u can check thread

well, yes, when i visited that region in 2003 , it was really a god forsaken place with no so good environment.

but it is better now as i visited last year.

In July my plan for Sawat is well covered with the help of Asifcae and Conflicted.
After Sawat my plan is to visit Shugran.
Now the question is what will be the best route for Shugran from Kalam. I will be driving corolla and with family.

option 1 :- Can Kalam - Shangla - Besham - Mansehra route is good in condition and secure for family, how long will it take form Kalam.

Option2:- can we go Shangla pass from malamjaba ??? if yes then follow the option 1 onward

There is definitely a connecting road from Malam Jabba to Shangla pass but confirm with locals whether it is suitable for cars or not.

Besham is not a problematic area. Besides after around 90 minutes drive u will be back in Mansehra district.

The right most lake is Sangar Lake which is part of Sat Sar Mala series.

Now looking at new imagery of Google Earth, there are infact 4 other small lakes around Sangar Lake.

There are amazing no. of lakes around Deosai which are now visible in new Google Earth imagery

But bears and leopards are coming to my mind too hehe

only bear threat is there,,, and for that purpose u can hire a wildlife official from bara pani, their fee is about 1000 per day... and roam anywhere into wild deosai and camp anywhere

I haven't heard of such route but maybe.

Following pics are of Dudipat Sar Lake trek and i have mentioned the point on the opposite side of which is Sangar Lake.

It looks very steep from this side but its simple from other side. There is a nallah coming down from a steep valley before Sat Sar Mala lakes valley. The trek goes up with that nallah upto Sangar Lake. Round trip can be done in 3,4 hours.
