Great pix of the area and a really awesome thread. I wonder how it skipped my attention earlier on.
These places are worth visiting AT LEAST once. I visited them twice and the second time was more fun as I knew a lot of things already so it really helped. If possible, try a road trip, instead of flying to skardu or gilgit. If you do fly, remember to book the return flight at the same time and keep extra budget in hand since return flight can be delayed due to bad weather.
You can get your passport stamped from Sost, not on the border. There is frequent movement on busses. There is a slight lack of oxygen at the border takes a little getting used to.
Shigar Fort is run by Serena management and is by faaaaaar the best restaurant in the northern areas. Even better than Darbar in Hunza Outclass facilities (though no cable TV which is common in skardu city).
No matter how great these pics might look, you'll really become speechless when you actually see the places for yourself. The mountains are so huge that the camera can't tell the complete story.
I really wish that the political unrest in our country ends so that economy boosting activities can bloom in these areas and more ppl can take advantage of Pakistani beauty.
P.S. People wanting to check out the island in midst of the sat-para lake (skardu) should hurry up as the lake is soon to become a dam and the island will be submerged in water in a year or so.
In the end, great work saatn1 and thanks a lot for creating awareness through your efforts.
