Trip plan to gilgit, kalash and lakes

Salam and greetings everyone,

This is my first ever post on this forum, though I have been an active observer of threads here. As the estimated trip dates are getting closer, I want to make sure by asking the gurus around.

Last year I happen to visit the valley of naran, the picturesque beauty of the valley left me in awe and it was back then when I decided to visited most (if not all ) lakes of our beautiful Country! So the summer is almost here, and I plan to explore the (other) north, namely Gilgit/kalash of the west of Pakistan. During my visit last summer to valley of naran, I happen to goto saif-ul-muluk, aanso lake, lulusar, jalkhad, babusar top.

We are a group of 6 to 8 adult males, all from Lahore, planning to start our journey by the mid of May 2013. I want someone to guide me to organize my trip to the north where we can attend festivals, and visit lakes too. Also, the travelling costs, means of transport, approximate stay, places to visit and safety precautions...I want this trip to turn into a memorable one! Kindly please guide me through..!

You should start with Chitral side with Chillam Josh festival in Kalash Valley which is in mid May.

Then visit Chitral city, fort etc. I am not sure whether way to Chitral Gol National Park would be open in mid May but u can always check locally and do visit if accessible.

After that, cover the full route till Gilgit which passes through Shandur Pass and u can see Shandur Lake there.

If you have time then from Gilgit, do a one day trip to Naltar Valley and Lakes and then come back to city. Babusar Pass is closed in May so u will have to come back from KKH side.

I didn't include any trekking but if u r interested then small treks can be done.

Overnight to Pindi and then full day journey to Chitral. See if u can reach Kalash on same day otherwise next day.

Day 2 and 3: Kalash Festival in different sub valleys

From here onwards, it depends if u travel on public transport or on a hired vehicle. There are lots of beautiful places to stop on this route which deserve attention but it is not possible on public transport. If you can afford then hire a vehicle and enjoy every bit of these 2 days journey.

Day 4: Chitral to Mastuj. Explore Qaqlasht on your way.

Day 5: Mastuj to Gilgit. Lots of stuff on this route. Sor Laspur, Shandur Pass and Lake, Handrup, Phandur and Phandar Lake, Khalti Lake, Gupis, Ghankuch and then Gilgit.

Day 6: Naltar Valley and lakes

Day 7: Gilgit to pindi to Lahore

Lahore-pindi-Chitral on piblic transport
Then hired vehicles between Chitral and Gilgit.
Gilgit-Pindi-Lahore public transport.

If u want to do overnight trek then visit Handrup Lake is a wonderful destination from Handrup village before Phandur. It is a 2 days return trek.
You can trek to upper Naltar Lake as well.
