Moving on to Gilgit from Shandur gives you more pleasant views...reached Gilgit at around 9pm (about 8 hours)...

Well people already were there on Mehran, Bolan, and other cars. It is difficult to handle an automatic car there. One should first check for the weather update because it will be difficult for cars in rain on those roads.

Next day we set off to Hunza from Gilgit. It took us 3 hours to reach there. The road is 70% complete and the work is in progress.

As for the cell services, I have telenor it had signals at all major areas. Only in Mustuj Ufone was active. There are mostly no signals of any service if you are on the road. In Gilgit they have their own local cell service which covers all the areas of Gilgit Baltistan.

We reached PTDC Rama, Astore in 4.5 hours from Gilgit. The place one should have a visit in his lifetime. Please make your reservation before leaving for PTDC Rama as it is the only hotel at Rama and is always packed with guests. There are hotels at Astore. Rama is at a distance of about 7km from Astore. The weather at Rama is cool and pleasant. It is the dream place for hikers and campers.

The Intersection at KKH from where the road heads towards Astore. The intersection is about 65km from Chillas and Jaglot is about 20km from this intersection. There is a sign board of National bank Astore directing to the road.

The track to Rama Lake is about 2hours from the PTDC hotel. Jeeps cannot go as the road is blocked by landslides and glaciers. It is quiet easy and enjoyable to go by foot to the lake. There are no restaurants at the Rama Lake, it is better to take some biscuits, chips and juice with yourself.

After spending two days at Rama we left for Babusar Top at 8:15am. Reached Chillas at around 2pm and to Babusar Top at 6pm (47km from Chillas).

As we were getting closer to the Babusar Top, the harsh cold breeze was getting unbearable. The glaciers were all around us. My Vitz was getting exhausted as it climbed up and I had to stop again and again...

At last reached the Babusar Top with grace of Allah Almighty... the last steep was covered with a little help of human push... but anyway it was a nice experience to have...

wat about ground clearance, i assume u missed manual tranny but what about hitting rocks under car ? while crossing streams and descending / ascending steeps ?
thinking about taking my city 06+, its kinda pampered car so i am reluctant to abuse her ..... but if it comes to perform ... my city will perform on steeps InshALLAH but i need good ground clearance .... i can't bear hitting rocks underneath guide me brother .....

I had replaced all the suspensions and springs before taking the trip because the car was dropped by the previous owner. Therefore I could see some good ground clearance and also had 15" rim with 185/65 tyre, a big one for vitz gave an extra height and ground clearance.

I was also worried about hitting rocks under but thanks to Allah went safe. In car you have to drive slow and look for a better place to place your tyres and move on...these things are learned as you move on...

Yes your City can do better but make sure to have good ground clearance and be sure the weather is dry during your trip...keep an eye on the weather forecast as I did. Large rocks are only at the steeps near to Shandur Pass and Babusar Top (at both ascending and descending). Main thing is be patient and drive as much carefully as you can...

I had witnessed Mehran on Babusar Top cruising on well and ahead of me...:S

One more thing if you have an option of 4x4 it would be much better...(H)
