Trip to k2 base camp anyone?

carrying 150kgs on a bike on such roads.That's y i said in my 1st reply that 'bike ki eyessi ki teyessi ho jaye gi'..
If u know wat r u talking about then that's gud enough.BUT,i seriously doubt that..
As for the doctors,In my point of view a team should be self sufficient on such trips.A doc in askole can't help u if u need him in the middle of baltoro..:),better get some first-aid lessons..
As for the fuel thing,ur trip,ur ass wat else can i say rather then Gud luck..:),And i do give respect,alot of respect that's y i havn't tried it yet coz i know i'm not eligible enough for such trip.Will try it,after 2-3 trips to other destinations.or iss say pelhay kah ap mujhe umer ka tana marein i would say 'dil hona chahida jawan taye umaran wich ki rakhya'..

bikes would be quite tough.. and libra is right.. 8-9 days is a good conservative bet. i would also recommend porters... 20 kg pack is ok but with bikes? and porters are necessary cuz khudanakhasta if someone injures himself...

and those burger kids you mentioned.. trust me.. you will find more of them there than the tough awesome guy you are.

and a word of advice,

get in touch with the sarhad tourism board... they will give u advice, they will arrange sleeping bags, tents, porters and a hotel as well so that you can wash up.
there are certain times that u can cross the glacier, and you will need porters and 20 kg is a good estimate but can become woefully inadequate.

on our last trip my cousin fell ill and we had to shoulder all of his 30 kg bag as well as a stretcher to carry him back.. so be mindful of unseen circumstances.

reality shows show u a version of life, real life situations can strike u when u least expect them.. keep that in mind.

Excellent idea. I have been there with 25kg on my back and might be able to lend a few tips.
100cc bikes are sufficent and the level of difficulty of this trek is rated easy unlike the Biafo or other treks. Still it needs careful planning although Dr. Yasmin Rashid took a team of Thallesemic children there who were transfused in Concordia.
Baltoro trek is a special blessing for Pakistan which should not be missed.

Dear Zoeed,

I highly admire your sense of adventure and courage. However, I think you are talking about two different trips. As respected Libra also suggested, going to Concordia (K2 Base Camp) alone is a 30 day trip from islamabad - 15 day one side. Going from Lahore to Skardu is in tself a week's trip (both ways). Going to Skardu alone on bikes is quite a challenge, since you have been there already, you would know what I am talking about. Going to Concordia would require physical fitness compatibility among team members, among other things.

Trekking to Concordia is another challenging idea and I would advise you not to take along anyone who does not have any idea what they are getting into because it is very easy to get hurt in such places and help is not immediately available unless you can arrange for a helicopter evacuation, for which the Army charges Rs 400,000 in advance, but you would need a satellite phone to contact them which again is an expensive issue. I suggest you try this trek with some professionals, such as the Adventure Foundation Pakistan.

As for the costs for a trek to Concordia from Skardu, expect to pay a minimum of Rs 30,000 per person. This is the estimate till 2007 at least.

Congrats on being there...
I believe you haven't done this recently assuming by the time frame that you tell...

here's the initial route:

Lahore-rawalpindi-abbotabad-Manshera- in one day.

Chattar-Buttgram-Besham-Kohistan-Dasu-Sombul Nalla-Shatial-Chilla in the second day

drive all the way up to askole in the 3rd day....

you see I've done many of these things.. and the best part is confronting your fears and then pushing the barrier to increase your threshold...

I understand that there are many difficulties that may seem to pop up in your minds...specially those who aren't used to doing these kind of things... So a little bit of assurance should lift up the mood...

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO ALL THE WAY UP TO CONCORDIA IF YOU THINK YOU CAN'T, JUST TAKE IT IN DAY BY DAY AND WHERE EVER YOU FEEL THAT YOU HAVE TOUCHED ALL LIMITS, THAT WILL BE YOUR CONCORDIA AND THEN JUST TURN BACK.

This is however, a initial plan, not finalised, but will definitely put your comments into consideration when devising a final roa map.

Excellent topic and great positive feedback. I support your trip fully. Infact for the last one month i have been planning myself for K2 base camp but not on motorbikes

Anyways Lahore to Askole is possible on bikes , my cousin have done it , they did it till skardu actually. But my friends do your homework for Askole to Concordia and Ali Camp. I mean 20KG wont be enough u will definately be needing porters to carry supplies. Just dont be hasty cuz you dont want to be in a situation where you have to cut short your trip.

Let me just add a suggestion. While going to skardu, if you have more days then try this route.

Lahore-Manshera

Manshera-Naran

Naran-Chilas (Through Babusar-Top. Around 6-7 Hours)

Chilas-Astore (2 hours on bike. I think)

Astore-Chillam-Deosai-Skardu.(This is most beautiful area if one hasnt seen it)

You will have hotels and food available and petrol on the way but always have backup fuel.

Just wanted to add to the excitement. Please do attempt whatever you plan to do. I am planning a SPANTIK trek and a possible climb . Do pray for me.

@libra We can go to askole through drive but there hotel possibility is low from next day we have to start trek to korofong there is a hotel that I read on net... rest of days we have to trek bardumal, paiju, khuburche, urdukus, goro II, concordia, after concordia we can hike to k2 base camp, there are many trek to on way back from k2 base camp but its extremely difficult trek around 4 to 5 hour daily trek approx 20 to 25 days it will take... I gather this information last year but unfortunately I didn't plan yet..
