It is normal for Naran that anyone can reach Naran on cars in the start of May but Lake road blocked by snow after 1-2 Kms.
We also visited Naran in 1st May in 2003 and same situation was there in 2003.
We trekked on snow and reached Lake S.F. Lake was also fully frozen that time and same will be now.

salam bhai, i want to visit naran/kaghan with my wife and 9 months old baby between 12 may to 15 may. i will go on corolla 2010 and will be traveling from lahore. i need to know few things

1. is the weather suitable for 9 months old
2. do we expect to see any greenery or only snow covered mountain and rain
3. what about the road condition , are they of same quality as mureee road
4. what area can we visit apart from naran/kagan
5. hotels prices and availability (any recommendation)
6. jheel safal malouk - boating possible or is it frozen
7. any other advice/suggestions please

I Personally advice that if you are planning to visit naran along with a nine year baby then do visit during August because there is freezing cold at night before that which is not good for your baby.

moreover never try to go at Sri Paya along with that little baby... the roads are not there and jeeps may jump around 4-5 inches from ground and will effect the passengers will jump resultantly around a feet above from their seats. Moreover also try to avoid Lalazar and Babusar Top as well because of teh same reason.. Han you may enjoy Balakot, Kewai, Shogran, Naran, Lulusar Lake, and Saiful Maluk along with your 9 month old baby.. but please keep lots of garam Cloths with you...

1) You will definately view lots of green areas at Shogran Pine Park Hotel.
2) Roads are average andd goods. but not of the same type as of murree.. because of the whether conditions and Heavy Snowfalling.
3) Hotels are bit expensive during End June to August.
4) at Jheel Saiful Muluk Boating possible from the end of June or Mid of July.
5) Keep Extra amount with you because some time due to land slides people stuck up there more days as they planned..

I stayed in Hotel Demanchi and probably it is the best hotel in Naran. A nice and cozy place to stay. Electricity is available from 0800 ~ 1000 in morning and 1800 ~ 2400 in night.

I am going for Kaghan Naran trip on 14th May with the family for the first time. Can you please let me know how much was the temperature over there exactly? Should we take extremely cold weather's clothes or average cold weather clothes?

The cold weather was only in Kagahan/Naran or was it cold in other areas as well?

Secondly, what was the hotel rates of Pine Park, PTDC Motel and Hotel Damenchi (if you might have stayed in one of them?) I heard these 3 hotels are the best in those areas.

Yesterday evening (02/05/2013), i returned after completing trip to Kaghan, Naran and Shograan.

Day 1, 30-04-2013.
Left Islamabad at 1130 hrs and reached Kaghan at 1900 hrs.
(Route: Islamabad, Haripur, Abottabad, Mansehra, Balakot and Kaghan)
General road condition: GOOD.
Stayed in Kaghan.

Day 2, 01-05-2013.
Left Kaghan at 1030 and reached Naran at 1200.
There was slight drizzle.
Road to Naran is clear and all vehicles can reach Naran easily.
At some places, the road is muddy due to land slide and while passing through glaciers road is rocky.
Only few shops, resturants and hotels are OPEN.
Road to Lake Saif ul Malook is OPEN/Clear for Three Km (03 Km) only from Naran bazar. Ahead of this point, all area is covered with snow. On 01/05/2013, there was little snow fall there and the weather was very cold.
Road to Jalkhad from Naran is OPEN for Five Km (05 Km) only and then there is glacier. Machinery(s) is working to clear the road.

Day 3, 02-05-2013.
Left Naran at 1030 hrs and reached Shograan at 1400 hrs.
Gereal condition of road from Kiwai to Shograan is not satisfactory. Only stretch of 1.2 km is paved rest all is in bad condition. I did see people taking Camry, Reborn and Honda City but i will not recommend to take cars there. At Shograan, few shops are OPEN and food is available only in the resturants of Hotels.
I reached back Islamabad at 2030 hrs.

It has low clearance as i usually bump on speed breakers inside lahore.

You can absolutely go to Naran on your car (Platz). Gradient is not that much however for shogran you have to be skillful for upward drive. People go to shogran even on Mehran.

You have to book hotels in advance for your tour during summer. Tourplanner.pk (www.tourplanner.pk) offers discounted hotel bookings for Naran, and Shogran
