Thank you for a well researched article. The MMT effects that you mention are long term effects that show up after at least 10000 km. My question is why would brand new Honda cars face knocking when the fuel RON is as per specs? I think there is some other variable that comes into play only in downsized turbo engines, such as the Honda 1.5 L. While the OMCs (Shell, Parco, PSO) need to use higher RON base fuel and to stop MMT addition to increase RON, Honda also needs to re tune their fuel map to match the fuel. I think the knocking in turbo engines is more related directly to Low Speed Pre Ignition (LSPI). When the RON of base fuel is low the excessive turbo boost causes overly lean mixtures. This is my two cents any further discussion and insights would be appreciated.
