Many factors effect the pricing and costing of a product:

Subsidies given by govt
bank lending rates
Dollar parity
Inflation effects
existence of Cartel like Toyota, Suzuki, Honda, importers of used cars which hinder new entrants to enter into the market.
Mentality of public who praise the pathetic Mehran and refrain from buying new cars.

I bet even TATA motors cannot produce cheap cars here in Pakistan because of many other factors as well as the factors mentioned above.

there is no shortage of talent in Pakistan and we can make anything if provided the platform and support. Proficient was one of the example which was destroyed by the govt that time because Suzuki swift/ Khyber was about to launch in PK. (read the case study here on PW). Every car they made was hand made even engine blocks were made by hand that time. 4 cars were sent to UK and other countries to test their durability and reliability which they passed but still cases were put on them and they bankrupted.

So we underestimate us and as far as cheap cars in india, i can say that majority of the indian public can not buy even the then cheap manufactured cars.

Nice post above, i thought, till i read your last line i couldn't understand.. I don't know your definition of a 'cheap car' but below is just one example of many 'cheap cars' sold in my market. The base price has risen to Rs2.78lacs and on road price ex-Chennai(my city) is Rs3.43lacs as of 2019. So, check out one of our cheap cars and compare with one of your cheap cars , maybe?

And, if you think TATA Motors makes 'cheap' cars, check out the all new TATA Harrier to launch on Jan23, 2019. The price is between 12-18lacs based on variant. It ain't cheap.

But, TATA does make 'cheap' cars for the masses too and this is one such from their stable, the Tiago

Price range Rs3.5 to 5.5lacs on-road. TATA Motors sold more than 100,000 Tiago cars in india in 2018 not including exports.

I'm pretty sure cheap meant lower in price, not in quality.

Pakistani market shouldn't be compared to India, where the population is 5 times compared to Pakistan. This means more manufacturers, hence more competition which leads to better quality of a product. I'm not just referring to cars.

Brother, India's and Pakistan's cars industry has no comparison in quality, quantity or price. India is far ahead in this obviously. I am here in Saudi Arabia and I see made in India Hyundai and Suzuki cars here, I've also seen Ashok Leyland and TATA products here. Meaning India is even exporting it's products and we (Pakistanis) are still struggling to bring competition/quality in our own market, hence no comparison.

My Indian friend told me that they can buy a Honda City (used) for less than what we buy a used Mehran there in Pak : /

Bhai, cheap se muraad sasti and not the low quality car. Pakistan economy and cost of mfg is so high which stops the manufacturers to produce cheap cars.

Indian people have edge over pakistan and the companies mfg and sellign their brands know very well what their public wants so they produce and sell keeping in mind the public demand and yes they are doing very well.

In pakistan cartel enjoy max profits, filling up govt stomachs and they dont give a damn for public demand. simple.

Bhai quality ka koi comparison nahee indian manufacturers are far ahead even we dont have our car brand yet.
as for Bravo is concerned, it seems much better than mehran. keeping in view the person who started the step to bring bravo in Pakistan, he has faced severe dollar price hike since they announced bravo and many other factors.

If bravo is widely accepted by our public then it will pave way for newer brands and good quality cars, but sadly ppl dont want to change easily and they are happy with the crappy mehran.....
