According to Pakwheels Blog, IMC has produced a few units of Manual 1.6 Altis and is using them for test purposes.
It retails for 1 lac less than the Auto variant and in my opinion this is a cost cutting move to minimize the corolla's starting price once the 1.3 is discontinued. More importantly, they'll need all the cost cutting they can make once the 12th gen arrives with 1.6 as base engine. Base price of corolla jumping from 2.5 Mn to 3.5 Mn for the next gen won't sit well with the general public.

The 12th generation Corolla is on complete new platform TNGA and evey other power where Toyota make Corolla , they did a major assembly line upgrade.. The 12th generation Corolla need basically an overhaul of the currently assembly line and it takes time. We are expecting 12th generation sometime next year but I have heard that because of low sales , evey domestic car company is burning through cash to run the assembly line and overall company operations. We can expect a delay for PKDM Corolla launch. Also no matter what 12th generation Corolla will for sure cost more even in base form.

I have driven the above shape corolla. Actually I own one with hybrid engine and it has improved well. Rear seats are a bit squishy. Handling over all is superab. Fuel economy with hybrid is about 25kms in local. Car has advance safety features.
Top challenge is to pay import duty that is equal to 2.7 million RS. I believe total cost would be 4.2million RS. Is it worth it, not sure?

Well.. the local assembled Corolla in Pakistan is almost 40 on the road price and importing one which is Hybrid would cost an arm and leg.. I mean an Imported Prius brand new now cost over 8 Million if you buy through Indus motors.

2.0 is only for US. Rest of the world is getting 1.6, 1.8 and Hybrid 1.8

How do you think the economic situation is gonna affect the launch of the new corolla?

-Will they launch it earlier than expected because sales have taken a nosedive and launch of new model will help boost sales?

-It wont have any affect on the launch.

-They will delay the launch since the downturn doesnt seem like its going to end any time soon and they dont have much incentive to invest in the assembly of a new model when their volumes are so low.

12th generation need a complete overall of the assembly line because of newer platform and it requires investment. Eventually , Corolla will come to our market but I expect there will be a delay. I also believe that 12th generation will have higher prices comparing current variants.

The good part of new platform TNGA, Toyota can deploy multiple models using same assembly line. I am not sure Indus will do that. Like corolla share platform with Rav4, Prius. Although local assembly of Hybrid is not that feasible, Rav4 could be good if assembled locally, obviously it will be cut on features if Indus do it local. Rav4 can target Sportage

I agree, Rav 4 can do well here. But somehow I doubt indus will ever assemble it.
