My case (family cars included) with a/c, in Islamabad:

Platz 2002 (automatic): 12 km/l, 14 km/l on M2.
Cultus 2002 with a/c: 9 km/l
Cultus 2009 with a/c: 11 km/l
Vitz 2002 (manual): 13 km/l
Gli 2010 (manual): 12 km/l

Just a reference, a Prius does only 50 miles to the gallon.

Zafira (7 seater) is Diesel so that's not a surprizing digit..
With the Corolla, it was a pain to be driving like a pensioner and it was done on the motorway, it used only 20 Euro worth of Petrol to get from Dublin to Galway and then from Galway to my home town Clifden (80 km) on single lane twisty and hilly road, it normally uses 25 Euro worth of Petrol because of overtaking many many cars and my 'spirited' driving on that road.

We have a different kind of petrol in Ireland (octane rating)...
And I DID get that mileage, drive with a light foot and you'll be doing the same.
Which one do you think is unreal?

Rusty - Both of the cars you mentioned are marketed with their economy in 30s mpg. The difference should NOT be THAT immense.

Seriously, 70mpg is revolutionary, it kills the gist of the production of low consumption hybrids.

I'm pretty sure you're mistaken..maybe it's 70 kilometers per gallon, because you've mentioned the distance in kilometers in your above post.

One more thing, hi octane means better combustion, it in no way guarantees better Economy.

If that's the case then I'd say my fuel needle must have messed have up for sure..
It was too far off as this is what I got from a review webiste:
'' Fuel consumption on a tank used for long motorway journeys at around 55-60mph is 60mpg or better. ''

HONDA EXI 2005.
12 kms/litre (with AC) and 12.5 (without AC) in the city
15 kms/litre on the motorway (with AC) and 15.5kms/litre (without AC)

The average increases if i put TOTAL fuel in it... Somehow, this car gives the best mileage on TOTAL petrol... It then does 13 and 16 in the city and highway respectively... Unfortunately TOTAL is not available in islamabad so mostly the averages i get is what i have stated above.
