Actually no. Sadly I don't have my A levels Physics book with me anymore so I cant quote/post a scanned pic however I will explain.

I agree that a wider tire would increase the contact patch and hence marginally increase the rolling resistance only when the car is launched. However given the same amount of input (i.e. accelerator), fuel economy would not be affected but rather acceleration would come down. Offcourse, this loss in acceleration is not noticeable to anyone.

However, lets for argument sake, consider that acceleration indeed suffers a huge blow, and the driver has to increase the input (i.e. accelerator) to achieve the desired acceleration. This would obviously affect the fuel economy. But then when looking at the flip side, i.e. when braking, the wider contact patch means the car also comes to a stop quickly, hence the engine has to work (in strictly physics terms) for a shorter time period resulting the more fuel economy. Hence the fuel economy equations balances out due to braking and acceleration.

The only way, wider tires can have an affect on fuel economy is when you go from, lets say, 185 to 225 when obviously the mass of tire being used has increased significantly (in % terms) and hence the car has more weight to move. In this case alone, can one argue that fuel economy might suffer a little.

i know what you are talking about,.. it basically has to do with the spread of load over a given area. thinner tyres have a larger load per sqare inch than wider tyres so as width goes up the load per square inch goes down. but we still (as yolu mentioned) have to factor in the added weight (minimal/negligable). but since cars tend to do alot of stop-go driving they will effect fuel economy.

continental are avalible in karachi ! i coudnt find em when i was searching for a replacement tyre.

Optimum is rite, the best tire for your ride is 215 X 55 R 16,
Well not all but most of the tires available in market are smuggled, but you can go for Continental, One of the Best tire

As far as rims are concerned, Go to City Tyre, Khalid bin walid, 0300 8296666 they have very good variety of Alloy rims and tires,

i will suggest you to just stick to the same rim i mean the genuine one and go for the wider tyre such as 205/or 215 up to yur choice and regarding brand its yur decision which brand u go for and abt michelin i will say that these tyres are too soft for our road surface and they usually get damaged from there side wall so go for the tyres which are suitable for our road surface as try 205-60-15 evol8 silverstone malaysia
there are few dealers in khi cuz its a bit expensive tyre

do check it out and drive it u will feel the difference

I recommend 205/55 R16, Tyre brand Continental <cite>contipremiumcontact2</cite>, Bridgestone Turanza GR90, Yokohama DB V550 or Dunlop SP Sports 9000 (Malaysian).

Wider tires can reduce your steering response on front wheels.

It is to again notify u that my civic is the lowest standard civic, so it got no rims, it has just steel wheels with wheel caps on! =|

I highly recommend to get imported lightweight alloys, irrespective of what tires you choose.

I think Yokohama havent any match with currently brands available in Pakistan dear go for YOKOHOMA... ill recommend u Yokohama Tyres!

Dunlop,Bridgestone,Kumho&Hankook havent any match with Yokohama!

I got Michelin Energy Saver Plus on my Civic. 205/65/15
I was using Yoko Ecos before. The immediate changes I felt are:
1- Lighter steering
2- Better road grip
3- Less cabin noise
4- Softer in bumps

I yet have to see it it actually saves fuel as well. Will share after finishing my tank.

I have bought reborn recently, road clearance but especially stiff front shocks is a big issue.
I am interested to know about your experience, so what is the result of using 205 size instead of 195?

Any improvement in road clearance, what aboutdecrease in fuel economy?

Any comment on Michelin energy saver plus damage due to soft side walls or anything else you wanna share ?

Would you still recommend Michelin or any other for a Reborn?
