My First Two Cars: Trust, Betrayal, and Lessons Learned
Assalamualaikum!
I hope you’re all well. Today, I want to share a story that still stings—the story of how I bought my first two cars. It’s a tale of excitement, betrayal, and lessons I’ll never forget. If you’ve ever dreamed of buying a car, this is a warning: trust carefully, or you’ll end up heartbroken like I did.
I come from a lower-middle-class family, so buying a car was a huge dream for me. In December 2023, I begged my family to let me buy one. At first, they refused, but after weeks of persistence, they finally agreed. I was thrilled. Little did I know, my excitement would soon turn into regret.
First Car: A Teacher’s Scam
After getting the green light, I dove into research. I spent hours on OLX, PakWheels, and YouTube, trying to learn everything about cars. My best friend suggested his uncle, Ejaz, could help because he was “an expert.” But after a month with no luck, I decided to search on my own.
One day, I met my Hifz Ustaji. He proudly told me about his 1987 Charade. “It’s automatic, with power windows and push-start,” he said, describing it like a dream car( پورا فضائل کا پارہ). As someone new to cars, I was impressed. He refused to sell it at first, but a few days later, he called and offered it to me for 550,000 PKR. He claimed others had offered 630,000 PKR but said, “You’re my student, so I’ll give you a better price.” ( صحیح ڈرامی بازی کری)
He promised to repaint it, fix everything, and hand me a perfect car. I trusted him blindly and sent him the money in advance. Weeks passed, and he hadn’t done any work. Eventually, I went with my cousin to collect the car. To my shock, it was handed over with no repairs, no battery, and no spare tire.
The Nightmare Begins
At first, I was excited to drive my first car, but that excitement quickly faded when I noticed the problems:
Headlights: They stopped working after a few minutes.
Suspension (Hissa): Completely destroyed۔
Accident Damage: The engine bay had been repainted, and the floor had welding.
Tires and Rims: Worn out and unsafe.
I spent another 50,000 PKR trying to fix the car, but it was hopeless. When I asked Ustaji to take it back, he refused. He had deceived me, and it hurt deeply. In April 2024, I sold the car for 460,000 PKR, losing 140,000 PKR.

Second Car: A Friend’s Uncle Breaks His Promise
After the Charade disaster, Ejaz—the uncle of my best friend—kept saying I’d made a mistake buying it. He claimed he could find me a much better car. I trusted him because I believed he was a car expert. He even convinced me to sell the Charade quickly, promising to find me a great deal.
One evening, Ejaz called and said, “I’ve found a 2009 Toyota GLi. Bring 1,750,000 PKR and come to Islamabad tonight.” I trusted him and went. It was already dark when I arrived, and I couldn’t inspect the car properly. I noticed the bonnet seal was broken, but Ejaz said, “A gamla (plant pot) fell on it—nothing serious.” ( جھوٹ آف دی سینچری) His constant reassurances made me ignore my doubts, and I bought the car.
The Rusted Truth:
The next day, during a car wash, I noticed the floor was rusted badly. I called Ejaz, and he brushed it off: “It’s just a small issue. Don’t worry.” Later, when I had the interior detailed, the truth hit me—the floor was completely rusted through.
I asked Ejaz to sell the car for me, and he promised to handle any loss. But three months passed, and nothing happened. Frustrated, I took it to a dealer. They inspected the car and dropped a bombshell: the roof had been replaced (چھت کٹ).
When I confronted Ejaz, he denied it at first. But when a potential buyer confirmed the roof issue, Ejaz admitted it. Still, he refused to help. “Sell it to a dealer,” he said, breaking his promise to cover my loss.( بچے یہ گاڑی میں نہیں بیچ سکتا)
Lessons Learned:
Do Your Own Work: Never rely on someone else to buy a car. Inspect it yourself.
Don’t Trust Blindly: Even trusted people can deceive you. Trust actions, not promises.
Check in Daylight: Always inspect a car during the day with a mechanic.
Get Everything in Writing: Promises mean nothing unless they’re written down.
Trust No One Fully: When it comes to buying a car, even your closest friends or family might let you down.

These experiences broke me. I lost money, time, and trust. The first person deceived me openly. The second didn’t hold to his promises. But I’ve learned the hard way, and I hope my story saves someone else from the same pain.
