2UZ are Cygnus and Grand Cruiser engines that cost more than what they re worth. Tricky electronics and expensive /hard to find parts makes it a pain to maintain and compromises the reliability of the rig in general. In short, more pain than pleasure. They re also extra thirsty and not at all economical or logical on long haul journeys. Not to mention their inability to handle poor quality fuel that is in abundance the further you get from population.
1UR is a 200 series engine that costs a kidney, a leg and a house, somewhere between 2million to 3.5million (BTW Conservative price range) you can deck out and modify another rig with that kind of money.
I have actually built a few rigs of my own with a Toyota V8 engine like an '84 FJ with a 1UZ, Y60 Safari with a 3UZ and a Jeep Wagioneer with a 3UZ. The adapter plate to mate a 4 wheel drive gearbox is tricky and gimmicky to get just right and a rig without 4wd is not a rig at all in my opinion.
If you want functionality, reliability and utility, stick with the genuine engine that's got massive amounts of torque and does what its designed to do. 12H-T isn't a bad choice either. Hope this helps
