One thing I noticed that when I drive this at about 90 km/h speed the RPM goes to about 4,000. Is it ok? The other vehicle I have (Isuzu DMAX) keeps the RPM below 2,000 at this speed .

Is it due to small engine? I am not sure what is the good range of RPM for driving.

I think YES, then transmission also counts; 4 speed, 5 speed, 6 speed, etc.

If rpm meter is there, try that it goes to max. 2500~3000. Do not let it go beyond it, irrespective of speed of your vehicle.

07 seater VAN with 1000 cc engine (please correct me, if I am wrong), what else one can expect?

Dear, Isuzu D Max and Changhan Karavan have no compariosn with each other. Engine (hp, torque, etc.), body class, etc. are all altogether different.

tell me you have plus model or simple varient. In changan karwan there is issue of high rpm and inside engine sound.

I am also thinking of booking the Plus Model/Version. I also got a quote from Master Motors FSD. Would like to know if the Cabin Noise is still there like the previous version?
Will do a test drive and let you guys know shortly.
But with PowerWindows and PowerSteering I think extra 1 Lac is worth it.
What do you guys think? Also did you guys check the TVC for it on Changan Official Facebook Page.

Changhan karavaan looks very promising. I my self am thinking to replace the WagonR with a Karavaan plus.

I find the RPM goes high. I noticed it was betweek 3-3.5k on speed of 60 kmph. It went to around 4k on 80-85 kmph on 5th gear.
I talked to the dealership and he says it is a known issue but the problem goes away after the car is driven few thousand kms. Let's see it goes or not by the time.
Cabin noise is still there.
Otherwise build quality etc is much better as compared to XPV and Bolan.
Power steering is also very good. Only front windows are powered.

I think the small 1000cc engine is tuned for better torque that's why higher rpms.

Yes seems like to get more HP out of small engine they have tweaked the small engine to run at higher RPM's

Hi Zulqarnain Habib,
I would also suggest you to visit the show room for Changan & FAW. Spend your precious minutes there to look the vehicle in datail from outside and inside. Watch the capacity range of the wheel and take info about the AC performance. Obviously, the dealers well let you know the best qualities. But you should go through the customers' feedback minutely. It will better help you take your decision.
Visit showroom in your own wheel and do the comparison with yours and the new one.

Just visited changan motors FSD.test drove the Karvaan "Plus" version and it was really good.

PROS:

Build quality is also good -- atleast better than suzuki
AC is amazing,
Power Windows and power Steering is also good
gear shifting + klutch is way way better than suzuki -- GLI level comfort.
New Seats are amazing -- loved the cloth fiber
Warrenty = 3yrs / 60000km (applicable for everything except clutch & tyres).
Floor matt is also good
Roof is good and it has two head-lamps now.
Has spare tyre + tool kit
Ample Leg room for 2nd and 3rd row passengers.
Storage space is really good even with 7 passangers.
Cheap Spare Parts: Front Bumper=12000 Rear Bumper=6000 HeadLight=8000

CONS:

Cabin Noise is there -- felt like a bit noisy compared to Toyota Altis But nothing compared to Suzuki / XPV
RPM -- Engine is tweaked to run at higher RPM's since its a 1000CC (small engine) and vehicle weighs almost 1800kg if it were not tweaked it would be under-powered.
Breaks -- Since it only has Front Disc Breaks with NO EBD or ABS

Overall Verdict:

Worth the price.
Plus version has all the features of a good MPV.

to cut the cabin noise it is suggested to do following upon purchase.

1. remove seats & interior floor mats.
2. buy dynamate or any good quality 3 mm rubber sheets. Cut as per floor pattern to fit panel sizes
3. clean the metal floor and stick the rubber sheets using high quality glue.
4. re-install oem floor mats and seats.

by this type of insulation you get 2 advantage will stop excess heat radiation from engine shield and reduce the cabin noise significantly

this is usual practice with bolan we have for staff daily commuting

Yes its only in Manual because the even the international version "Changan Chana Star 3 / 5" also comes only with Manual Transmission.
