Yes.
Thank you.
I did the first oil change on the KLR today after the third ride.
The drain plug is a 17 mm bolt and draining the oil is easy with the SW Motech skidplate having the correct cutout in it for access.
The oil filter housing on the right side is held by two 8 mm bolts.
The cover needs gentle persuasion to come off due to the O-ring seal:
The filter cartridge slides out easily:
The old filter had lots of debris and gunk in it already:
Transferring the central shaft from the old to the new filter cartridge:
Ready to reinstall and button up:
Refilled it with 2.2 quarts of Rotella T6 5W40 Synthetic oil.
All done.
And made in India filter..

Thanks. I use use the regular ATTGATT approach, nothing unusual.
LOL. It is better to change a filter rather than trying to clean it I feel. And those are just ordinary vinyl gloves.

The first ride of 2014:
Dare ride on the icy water? probably need a snow mobile for that!
There is ice riding on Irondequoit Bay off Ontario Lake, but a set of studded tires is needed for that. I might go there to snap a few photos when the races are on.
