So, you need to make sure the device that technician looking guy has installed is new; supported by new wiring & quality strong joints. Although some companies donāt allow the owner to be there when device is being installedā¦
(not necessarily because they are must to install a used device but to hide it from owner as precautionary measures)
you have to make sure it isā¦ what you have paid for.

What technology, tracking system would be using to provide vehicle real time location

If youāre a person like meā¦ who knows computer as āa DELL Machine, that starts working after pushing that Oval Thumb Sized Buttonā Well!!! That habit wonāt help hereā¦ wake up!!!
I wonāt use jargonsā¦ Iāll put things simpleā¦ companies are using GPS in combination with GPRS to track the vehicle. Through GPS, tracker calculates the coordinates (stuff that tells where your driver is chilling with his mates) & through GPRS (mobile internet for you) sends the data to tracking company server. That calculates & shows the vehicle location on computer screen. Some low budget companies also use SMS instead of GPRS. Some companies program there systems for bothā¦ depending on tracking systemās supporting level.
Conclusion: Although GPRS is better than SMSā¦ but, as long as vehicleās movement is in city area(s) or on well known highways. In villages or less developed areasā¦ you know yourself people donāt use mobile internet thereā¦ so NO GPRS Coverage no Vehicle Location THERE... however SMS system works better in undeveloped/under development zones.

How to check if Tracking System is effectively working & vehicle is being monitored (for User End)

Manually disconnect vehicleā battery wiring terminals & wait if Tracking Company responds in real time not more than 5minutes (ideal) or max 7-10 minutes

Once in a while check if the tracking system installed is still capable of immobilizing the vehicle under shortest notice by calling companyās helpline at least once/twice a month

Ask for your vehicleās RUNTIME location & movement history if by chance youāre in an undeveloped area, a village, or on fogy location

Donāt forget to make all the above checks if you just brought your vehicle back home from workshop after a good deal of engine or vehicle electric system repairsā¦
